Yes, damn those traitorous Democrats.
All they've done since the beginning is talk a lot of shit while putting up pathetic, spineless resistance to everything Bush has done. Patriot Act? Complained about it bitterly, said they didn't have time to read the whole thing and signed the damn thing anyway. The war in Iraq? Complained about it bitterly, voted for it anyway (including Hillary, oh the horror) and now the best they can do is come up with this mealy-mouthed non-binding garbage. Yippee, you guys took a vote and said you don't like it but you're going to bend over for it anyway. Thanks Democrats, way to be the opposition party. More like the candy-ass party. Years of the GOP trashing them and anyone left-of-center as being terrorist-lovers, cowards, traitors and then the second they get any kind of power what do they do? Decide "Oh let's let bygones be bygones, no need to be unpleasant". Bullshit to that, there damn well is a need to be unpleasant. Someone drags you through the mud for a decade, convinces people you're in league with psycho fundamentalist nutbuckets just because you disagree with them, you don't say "Ohoho, it's all in good fun chaps", you tell them to STFU and back the hell off. This is allowing people to run the entire nation based on weasel words. This is real cowardice, being afraid to say something and then stand up for it no matter what the consequences. All they seem to want is to remain in some kind of power, and if they have to be the GOP's bitches then they're okay with it. This is why I mostly don't vote for them unless it's local elections. Hillary? Phony, lip-service progressive windsock. Bill? Same damn thing. Edwards? Coward, couldn't stick up for his own staff people when it counted and instead looked like he was ready to cave to people who wouldn't vote for him anyway. Obama? Way too slick for my liking, hasn't even come close to kicking ass and taking names of the idiots who keep childisly misspelling his name because they think somehow chanting "OSAMA OBAMA!" is political debate.
The Democrats need to grow spines, yes, but not so they can claim they're "tough on terrorism" like the GOP, but so they can actually serve the purpose they're supposed to; keeping this country from having a one-party government. All this "Hurrrrr, Dems and libs is terrist-luvers" stuff is just weak and they should be standing up against it, not quaking in fear every time some jackstain starts mouthing "traitor" at them. I am not a traitor because I don't want more lives wasted on this idiocy of taking down some half-assed dictator we used to say was one of the good guys. I am not a traitor because I'm tired of soldiers dying for bullshit and for some corporation or another's bottom line. I am not a traitor for demanding that we not sink to the level of the enemy and start torturing people just to satisfy people who've watched too much "24" and don't realize that torture only works if by "works" you mean "makes you look like a bunch of evil thugs, gives the fanatics more ways to convince people you're evil thugs and gets the torturer off". Neither is anyone else a traitor for thinking or saying these things. This is the very essence of what an American citizen should be; questioning of authority, desirous of positive change, unwilling to bow to pressure to conform.
This may be an unpleasant thing for some to hear, but here it is: America is not perfect. It has never been perfect. Its people and its government have done wrong. The way past that is to acknowledge it and fix it, not engage in this "GrraRRrr, you hate America, America does nothing wrong, get out hippie!" whitewashing bullshit. If what you want is to live in a place where nobody can question the government or the nation's history and nobody can say "Hey, you're doing it wrong, fix it", I suggest that you relocate. Obviously you can't handle a nation with freedoms and citizen participation in government and I'm sure there's some nice totalitarian police state that'll welcome you with open arms once they are assured of your unswerving loyalty to authority over your countrymen. You won't be missed here.
