Im lowing all these Americans defending gun ownership when all facts point towards the fact that legal guns = more homicides, accidental deaths and home-owners getting shot. It defies belief that someone wants to own a gun that badly.

ask yourself how many of you have been effected by firearms?
now how many of you have been effected by vehicles?
ive been in a car accident, but never shot at or been shot at by anyone.
not even that, take drunk driving accidents, a huge chunk of the total car accidents. wanna ban booze too? to hell with that.
That happened once, didn't turn out well.mcjagdflieger wrote:

see the great thing is that no one cares what you think. i own guns and laugh at people like you.....be glad you live where you do, you could have been born hereVilham wrote:

Allow me to rephrase: the vast majority of guns used in South Africa are imported. In the US, on the other hand, the vast majority are manufactured within national borders, for the purposes of legitimate gun ownership.GunSlinger OIF II wrote:

In 1988-1993 South Africa had approximately 20,000 gun deaths per year. In 1993 they restructured their gun control laws to outlaw over 90% of the guns that had been legal. Since that time, gun deaths have risen to over 30,000 per year. South Africa has approximately 1/6th of the United States population, and about twice the annual firearm related murders. South Africa has the highest number of murders by firearm in the world (0.720 per 1,000 people, rounded to nearest thousandth) while the US is #8 on the list (0.028 per 1,000 people, rounded to the nearest thousandth). From over .7 to well below .1 is a significant difference...
There are plenty of preconditions placed on both....mcjagdflieger wrote:

I don't care if people have hunting shotguns, but any kind of auto/semi weaponry is unnecessary. There are restrictions on both cars and alcohol, and they vary in strictness across the world. Age limits, public order rules, road safety laws, speed limits, etc.
Arguing for tighter restrictions seems to constantly get confused with arguing for a total ban.
That's exactly what I'm saying. The massive social upheval that occured was a much more significant event than the new gun laws.mcjagdflieger wrote:
so your saying because of what happened then, we cant compare what happened afterwards? even after it was abolished? his point was they reformed their gun laws, and gun crimes rose. and you say its not a valid argument because of a gov. reformation?
South Africa went from a White minority rule to a democracy. The South African government prior to 1993 was a police state where they could and did drag people off in the middle of the night to imprison, torture and sometimes even kill them. The swapping of govenments lead to a huge backlash by the poor majority against the minority rich white landowners which included huge numbers of deaths as the farmowners were targeted.
Anyone who thinks the change in gun laws were the signifcant factor in changing the homicide rates in South Africa during that period doen't know much about South Africa
Yeah its gunna be great when you get shot by someone isnt it..? Have fun with that. Ps dont come to England.Parker wrote:

yes i like shotguns also, however i live in the #1 dangerous city in the US. i carry a 1911 with me almost everywhere i go....i dont want to carry a revolver, and you know you cant carry shotguns.
so what should i do? should i be victimized by gangbangers and not defend myself?
i understand what you are saying, but the problem is that guns are already an issue.....if they were not used by criminals i wouldnt feel the need to carry.
so i agree with you to a point, but what am i supposed to do?
if u dont like guns, then stay in England... but in the US we like our rightsVilham wrote:

Ask yourself roughly how much you use a car for a useful purpose on the average day, then ask yourself how much you use your gun for a useful purpose?Smitty5613 wrote:

There you have the reason why that arguement is stupid.
see thats the difference between our countries.....i HAVE the option to defend myself, you dont.Vilham wrote:

lets hope you never have to look down the business end of a firearm.....i dont think that attitude will be enough to defend yourself with
yes, but most people here seem to be bashing the right to bear arms, not "lax" gun laws. and a shotgun can do just as much, if not more damage, in close quarters. alot of the shootings have involved shotguns. what makes it ok to have them if its tighter to get other guns? youd just see alot more shotgun incidents than handguns/rifles on the smaller incident level.
and miller-oh i know about it. woulda sucked to have to slink in to hidden bar. but it sure is funny seeing those videos of them axing apart barrels, in a sick kind of way.

the tighter the restriction, the closer it is to a ban......UON wrote:

it might be a risky virtue of our country, but i enjoy my freedom.
because we let in bosnian muslims terrorists?
Call me crazy but I recon you'll find that cars are use a whole lot more in America on a day to day basis that cars. The useful aspect of cars far outweights the negative. The same cannot be said for guns.Smitty5613 wrote:

It does seem that despite the obvious problems that gun ownership causes that America is firmly stuck in it's ways over the issue, at least for the forseable future anyway.
that guy is from Bosnia he was not American citizen he was a Muslim. No offense to other Muslim out there. He was just mad about the war that took place between Serbs and Muslims. He came from Bosnia thats why he was so mad, you would be 2 if you lived there the war and shit. But any who he was mad about the war so he U.S. brought him to to live in Utah and then he started wasting people.

Shows your pretty weak that you need a gun to defend yourself against someone.Parker wrote:

Where as i can defend myself much more easily seeing as the chance they have a gun is about 0.005% Im willing to take that risk to lower homicide rates and accidental deaths...
i hope that was just to get a rise out of people, lest you give people another reason to think we're all stupid. if not, can I have some of that eye shutting crack? edit...aimed at the elvis fella

i think you should move to England, then you would have all guns banned and you will be happy ...... for every person who uses a gun for a crime, there are at least 100,000 who dont.... so why punish the responsible gun owners?PureFodder wrote:
