Why does Venezuela have the worst murder rate in South America? Even exceeding Colombia?
http://www.vcrisis.com/index.php?conten … 0604112039How about high ransom kidnappings? Why are those so much more frequent there than they are here?
http://www.cbc.ca/world/story/2006/04/0 … 60405.htmlHere's another article, slightly less recent but no less important, citing the wonderful world of Chavez. And people complain about Bush, myself included. I feel a little stupid critcizing him at this point against this track record.
http://www.newsmax.com/archives/article … 1428.shtmlAmomg the worst of Venezuela's problems under Chavez:
Crime. The crime rate has leaped by an incredible 80 percent since 1998.
"Between 60 and 100 people are killed on an average Caracas weekend," Tamoyo reported. "Those Venezuelans who can afford them live behind barred doors and windows."
Ten thousand Venezeulans marched to the legislature earlier this month to demand tougher anti-crime laws.
Unemployment. It stands at 13 percent, with half of Venezuelans working less than full time.
Education. Chavez attempts to to politicize the educational system and his avowed admiration for Castro have driven tens of thousands to move money and families abroad, creating a significant brain and capital drain.
Government and land reforms Chavez promised have gone nowhere, and businessmen say that while he has tried hard to attract foreign investors, he has made it harder for Venezuelans to invest in their own nation.
