Out of all of these shootings, please find me a single instance where the person who goes nuts and starts firing had a concealed weapons permit? I doubt the kind of mind that 'goes postal' like this ever feels the need to get one.Tompie913 wrote:
They need to have psychology tests for people to have concealed weapons
According to a Norwegian newspaper the killer in Salt Lake City was a Bosnian refugee. I dont think we can blame the American system in this case.
I would have posted link, but it`s Norwegian...
Edit: He was one of the survivors from the massacre in Srebrenica, Bosnia 1995. He probably saw several family members being killed during his childhood.

It doesn't matter where he was born, what is important is how easily you can get a gun in the US. I still don't get why most of the people here support the Right to Bear Arms. You really feel safer having guns?Fredrik wrote:

Google this!
I agree to some extent with your view on the gun laws in The USA, but if you really want a gun, you can get one easily no matter where you live in the world. I would have no trouble finding an Uzi or a mp5 in Norway, even though they are forbidden...
Ok, so your argument is that EXACTLY 50 school shootings have happened since 1996 worldwide. And that the list, posted on a website catering to mostly English speaking surfers, is not selective in choosing these incidents because the list covers every shooting worldwide which coincidentially is a round 50 since 1996.sergeriver wrote:

A Time Line of Recent Worldwide School Shootings
This is a report about school shootings around the World. I know the SL City episode was in a mall, but look at the stats. They mention 50 shootings, and 90% happened in the US.
I posted the chance of getting shot in the US. You posted a list of 50 incidents worldwide...which is not a complete list. Is there an argument in there?
My point is you have a 0.0027% chance of getting shot.
Carrying this logically through: statistically speaking you have more chance of being shot then killed by a terrorist. Yet when the situation presents itself, people tell me not to worry about terrorists because the chances to be killed by a terrorist is so remote. Now, you are telling me to worry about gun violence which is more likely to happen then being killed by a terrorist?
Want to try again?

I'm not telling you to worry about it. I'm just asking why do they happen? What is happening in a person's mind when he/she decides to go to a public place and kill people he/she doesn't know. Forget about the number of cases.Pug wrote:

Ahh...okay. Sorry I had to drag that out of you. I'm going to get some coffee now.sergeriver wrote:

I don't think its an issue. I believe that it SEEMS like these types of incidents are common because they are highly publicized compared with the run-of-the-mill shooting. So the story cycle is longer than other incidents which equates to a higher visibility, which means there SEEMS to be more of them.
I feel the same way about abuse of authority sex scandals (priests & teachers).
I find it weird that no one ever seems to post "gun violence" by age group whenever these things happen to try to prove the theory.
i fully support the Right to Arm Bears, and anyone wants my gun they can pry it...sergeriver wrote:

Look at it this way: is it easier for a government to control a population that is
1) armed or
2) disarmed
Our Constitution is by design pro 'common man' with the intent of investing citizens with
rights and the government power by consent of the citizens.
since 9/11 we really haven't heard from Sarah Brady, have we?
Does anyone know what gun laws were like in Germany pre-WWII?
As a side note.
I would take random shootings over this...
"..siege that ended in the Srebrenica massacre of 8,000 Muslims in Bosnia’s 1992-95 war.."

Well, I guess it's just lucky that the Western powers didn't screw with your borders during 2 World Wars then.
Wait a minute, isn't the US a Western power?

Drunken drivers there are laws against....no laws against angry or fucked up ppl getting guns...why make it easy and sell them almost everywhere, sure many of them are illegal, and the same in many óther nations, but if you fail to see that more guns = more shootings you are just retarded.
The Americans have got this all wrong...the way to go is to develop society until no guns are needed for selfdefense...

As a side note.. thats called fucking war. So by comparing it to that what you are saying is your country is constantly in a state of civil strive but just a minor one.usmarine2007 wrote:

Right. I am not comparing. All I am saying is, stories like this are common everywhere, so why is he asking if it is always happening in America. But stories like what happened in Serbia, are not common eveywhere. Worry about stopping situations like that, don't worry about nutjob random shooting idiots.Vilham wrote:

But thats the point. You shouldnt give a damn what is going on in other countries. You should give a damn about what goes in on yours.
How do you know because of these nuts jobs your child wont end up getting shot at school? In other well developed countries people have no such fears as these shootings just quite simply dont happen. I think that is his point.

It's because kids have such a harder time growing up now a days because of laws that are stifling to developement.
They keep on making laws against outlites for the fucked up teenages so strick, that they feel traped and confined. So instead of smoking a little weed or getting shitfaced, they go on killing rampages IMO..

Listen. The reason this happens is mostly because of the restriction of guns.sergeriver wrote:
Armed Man Kills 5 at Mall in Utah
This episode and the one in Philadelphia, took the lives of 8 people.
Why do these shootings happen so often in the US? Would they happen without the Right to Bear Arms? Is it safe a civilian carrying a gun? I'm asking, not making a judgement. I want to know your opinion about these cases, because they happen frequently.
Just read:
A criminal is a criminal for 1 reason, because he breaks the law, and no matter how many laws you make, the criminal is still going to break them if he really wants.
Therefore, putting a restriction on guns, only takes guns away from the innocent people whom need protection from the criminals.
From the criminals point of view, an civilian without a gun is a free kill, but if civilians were allowed to carry guns, there would be less criminals shooting innocent people, because he would be in a lot more danger of being shot himself.
It's what most liberal sheep dont understand. Guns dont kill people, people kill people. You dont take away knives just cause people stab each other.
Now, citizens being armed may not have stopped this guy, i didn't read the article but he sounds like a wack job. But, undestand that most hostage situations, plane hijackings, car hijackings, and general crime where the criminal expects to escape or kill a ton of people, wouldn't happen if the civilians were properly armed.
And now you know.
15 more years! 15 more years!
Guns don´t kill ppl that´s right, but ppl with guns surely have an eaasier time killing others.....if USA wasnt that loaded with guns to begin with...then just the really hardcore criminals would have them at tops, and they very seldom bother normal people...they rather have own wars and rob banks and soo on...and it´s not the civilianz that are supposed to do the police´s job to stop crime.
Most nations in europe had theese laws removed hundred of years ago because guns are more powerful then swords and knifes, and they have the police to do the job instead. I guess since america is hundreds of years behind in cultural development I guess some of their laws and soceity are also.

I don't want this thread to become another your country is better than mine one. I have my opinion on civilians owning guns, but in this case I wanted to know yours about these shootings.
@dezereagal5: What is the police for then? I mean if you need to own a gun to protect yourself from criminals, what is the point of having a police?
