So, I lost my CDs and decided to download the DVD, installed just fine.
However, I would guess that 90+% of the servers it finds are very distant (usually Eastern European, Asian, and even some Aussie servers), and thus have pretty bad ping times. I am in the Eastern U.S. running normal BF2 1.41. I did notice that it shows an American flag next to my name in BFHQ, but I also created the account with my original CDs that I bought.

I have tried googling, and searching here if there is some kind of regional setting, but I am guessing that even if there is, it cannot be changed without reverse-engineering the code. Which isn't a big deal, as using the all seeing eye is only slightly less aggravating than the in-game browser. Anyone have any ideas on this?

Thanks in advance.

Don't think that has anything to do with installation, I can also find servers all over the world. Just try in the evening, usually there are more servers playing at your continent. or sort by ping and take one with less than 100.
Correct me if I misunderstood your question.

There should be way more...

dunno what ping you have on western US servers, but it should be reasonable

good luck on finding a "solution"

p.s. try switching off your filters when searching for a server
