You know, less than 6 months before the events of 9/11/2001, the Bush Administration gave the Taliban led government there $43 million in aid.

They (US Govt) don't give a fuck if they (Taliban) blow up shit in their country.  It's only when they harbor and support people blowing shit up in our country that they care.

At this point it really doesn't matter what we do. Whether or not we quell the insurgency, Iraq will become the same radical Middle Eastern shithole it has always been. We are doing too much for a country that will inevitably regress back to what it once was. This is the Middle East we're talking about here. They don't want peace, and they don't deserve it. If they want to live in the year 1000 for another 1000 years, let them. What we should do is quarantine the region--create a "zoo", so to speak. They can stay in their designated area and kill each other all they want, but they won't affect the outside world. As history has shown us, they have a tendency to bring their shenanigans all around the globe.

Good point again.  We funded them in an effort to hinder opium trade, but of course, that turned out pretty damn badly.

You know how there is the Godwining of a thread?  There should be a new law about referencing Aldous Huxley or George Orwell in internet threads too.

We shall call it the Jennings Law.

I agree though, it does sound much like it.

Also, offtopic, its Johnnie Walker, not Johnny.

No it's not, We condemed the statue bombings in the harshest terms.
We gave them money because we are good people and we had some to share.
They were asshole.
And now they are mostly dead.

Um...  It was about the opium trade, I assure you.  We've done some pretty dumb things in the War on Drugs.

Humanitarianism has nothing to do with it. The US owes Iraqis a withdrawal to give Iraqis the chance to duke it out amongst themselves and determine the nature of their little patch of land through civil war. To keep the 'peace' (lol) there would have to be a 'Saddam' or a US army present there FOREVER - not feasible.

Dabbling in the middle east is the most futile exercise in the world.

Ive said it before and ill say it again. The coalition should withdraw and let the Iraqi people make their own future. Yes it will begin with a escalation of violence but it will eventually petter off as a new dictatorship wins the power struggle. Come to think of it, the CIA are well practiced at removing elected governments and installing dictators in south America? Maybe thats how the US could move things in Iraqi along. Pity yous hung Saddam, ohhh wait Muqtada al-Sadr is still alive....he will do.

Its our arrogant failure to understand that Arabs are from a different mindset to us and our unwillingness to let them evolve at their own time that paved the way for the continuing meddling in ME affairs. So what if they are 1000 years of development behind us, considering Homo sapiens have been about for 200 000 years 1000 years isn't allot. 1000 years ago civilizations were dictatorships.
Basically we are a bunch of arrogant impatient pricks salivating at the prospect of the oil contained in the middle east.
