Hey all, first post here..

(im copying this post from a place where i posted it earlier)

I had this bf2 slow loading problem earlier which i didnt sort out so I just dropped in a raptor that I had lying around in my pc (36gb).. and i installed bf2 and patched (on the raptor of course).. but it still takes 6 mins to load.. I downclocked proc to 2.73ghz and i loosened the mem timings a bit and my 7900gto is running @ 700/800 but now im at a loss as to whats going on.. I want to get back to playing bf2 but im put off because of the insanely long loading time.. I ran a complete registry clean w/ registry mechanic, only bf2 is installed on the raptor which was put in today so no defragging needed... the C:\ drive is already defragged but still no go.. it wants to take as long as possible to load.. and the settings are all maxed out @ 1280x1024 ( i dont want to force the 1440x900 rez yet cuz of the loading problem ) audio settings are medium and EAX is disabled and VOIP is also disabled..

I just timed the loading of the dalian plant 16 player singleplayer map and that took 6 mins and 36 seconds.. then i quit that and when i joined a server online, it started the same process ( no use of the map loading already done ) it pauses @ 14%, 15%, jumps in steps to 47% and then slowly crawls to 62% where it just takes 3+ mins to load beyond that...

I put all the settings in absolute low w/ 800x600 rez and the game took 40 seconds to load single player.. its still BAD.. ppl are getting 20second load w/ maxed gfx w/ raptors

O and btw .. all this is on a fresh install of windows XP.. which i did after posting this elsewhere..

You'd better run some Sisoft sandra tests or some similar equivalent (DrHardware etc). You need to see if your equipment is performing to spec or if something fucked up has happened (like your HD running in PIO mode or being faulty etc).

Everytime you run the game and change the Video settings it has to reset the shaders...that is what is taking the time.....load up a map let it do its shader stuff...log out then log in again on to the same map ...should be a lot faster....takes about 45 secs on my raptor but when I change the GFX settings its about the same as you!

hope this helps

hm... havent tried the log out and login it thing.. hm.. shouldnt be too long.. but 6+ mins.. even for shader optimization sounds like a lot to me..  and i ran SiSoft Sandra 2007 for all my components and they perform fine/better than other/similar components and i read something about this PIO mode.. wtfux is that.. this is something i heard of only till yesterday.. and the only option i have for my raptor in bios is like extended ide and access size which is either auto or large.. when i changed it to large ... the game loaded slower so i returned it to auto.. when i ran the sandra2k7 bench for my raptor it was similar to a raptor raid setup.. so nothing wrong there.. theres nothing wrong w/ my cpu.. cuz it beats the e6600(stock speeds) in the whetstone and dhrystone benches, ram is fine too..

Is your raptor IDE or SATA??

Look for the 'IDE ATA/ATAPI' controllers icon and expand it by clicking on the (+) sign next to it. Select either the Primary or secondary IDE channel, which controls your  drive, right click on it and select Properties.

Go to the 'Advanced settings' tab, and the device that you want to set (Device 0 or Device 1). The example below shows that drive D:\ works in PIO only mode. You should modify this to 'DMA if available'  mode, to let Windows select DMA mode if it is supported by your drive (it usually is).

Then, click OK. Windows will ask you if you want to reboot, for these settings to take effect. You should allow it.

hm seems my loading times for optimizing shaders are down to around 3 mins.. but my loading times for no shader optimizing are still 6 mins..
