I've got the YES feeling

I've been working on an article for about two freaking months of hell, which became some sort of sleep deprivation experiment. My average sleep hours went down from 6 to 4 and the last week to something between nothing and 3... Just to get the bloody thing in some form that could be appreciated by the international scientific community.

The whole process kept me at work for about 18 hours a day and even non-stop at the end (Yes you read it correctly 24/3 days long). Although I should add, that the time I couldn't set my mind to it, I was burning a lot of time here...

Anyways... IT IS FINNISHED... YES !!! WOOT WOOT

And what shall we do for a reward??? Start gaming? Get the SF, which I didn't hitherto, clearly because there was no need. I didn’t even played the game for almost a month (you can check my stats for that). Definitely all of it... But I'm off for some real vacation as well. Me and my GF, a plane to Italy and a rental car... That will bring us from hotel to friends to hotel...

Oh, I might even stay in a hotel with the GF for a couple of days to begin with Haven't seen her much either.

Until so far the my general expression of yes
I'll be reading you all soon... In 10 days or so

Cheers,
R

First off, have fun on your vacation.

Secondly, what was the article about? Could you please post it or post a link? If you put that much work into it I'm sure it will be a good read.

Uhm promotion? When where what How can I leech even more from society? Or do you mean the wiki that drained my sleep thing. Yeah, loving it (to much).

About the article... Uhm I'd be surprised that you people will remain interested after giving out the title (or under review by the editor paper/title); But here goes:

Pharmacogenetics in affective disorders: a drug response approach.

Still interested? Guess not

I know nothing about medical treatment for affective disorder, but I am always willing to learn. Is it in dutch ?

Probably I did not specify enough; it is in English but a it is a scientific paper. So it is about 12 pages of heavy-on-the-gastro-intestinal system material. But when it gets published (after the review process by the editor and such) I'll post a link to the pdf.

To clarify the subject and 'accessibility' here is an older paper covering similar research. It is rather outdated and not precisely the same, because it is difficult to find public available scientific papers, but it gives you an idea. (and it will clarify that I still have some doubts about you all really wanting to read it )

WoW... The yes feeling is back.

The bloody paper finally got published.  I know I know, this is needles bumping of a amazingly old thread; but it is out: one down 3 to go.

Pharmacogenetics in Affective Disorders: A Drug Response Approach
R. Lefebvre and J. Del-Favero

Affective disorders, including unipolar (UP) disorder and bipolar (BP) disorder are among the most important causes of death and disability worldwide and result in high costs in terms of morbidity as well as mortality. Although the etiology and pathophysiology is widely unknown, family-, twin- and adoption studies argue for a strong genetic determination of these disorders.

These studies indicate that there is between 40-85% heritability for these disorders but point also to the importance of environmental factors. Despite the availability of a wide range of different drugs, about 30–50% of patients do not respond properly to acute treatment.

Here we provide an overview of genetic drug response markers for affective disorder. Central in review is the question if individual therapeutic outcome for a given treatment can be predicted using genetic markers? An overview of pharmacogenetic and pharmacogenomic approaches is described for selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors (SSRIs), tricyclic anti-depressants (TCAs), and mood stabilizing drugs in relation to each of the major candidate genes for affective disorders.

R. Lefebvre is my guess, but if you read the heading you see he wrote pages 191 - 208, so its more than just the paragraph.

Congrats Robin

Yeah, that is just an abstract from the work, a precis if you will.

Just reading the abstract it seems the essence of the study is being able to ascertain from the victim's, ermmm patient's, genetic markers whether they will have a positive reponse to the treatment prior to adminsitering the drug? Also that the environmental and psychological factors will affect a patient's response to a treatment.

I'd like to read the full paper, is that possible?

Correct.
I am surprised one would read the abstract, let aside understand the content.

I was just expressing my juvenile enthusiasm and shouting in every available channel that the first paper was published. 1 down… 3 to go.

Well, since it is published I am allowed to distribute it. It is a ‘review’ paper so it should be readable for scientific educated people, without specialised in my field. Not wanting to be condescending here, but some foreknowledge is required. I experience some difficulty reading a simple web-page as tom’s hardware; other will experience similar difficulty reading the abstract above.

If you are still interested PM me your email and I’ll send you a pdf.

Cheers,
R

Ps.: thanks for the interest and wishes
