Impounded pending enquiry? It sounds like a cover-up, but apparently The Sun only got the video from a leaked source in the US military, but the fact that the defence council didn't want to release the tapes until AFTER they had edited.....I mean analyzed them, has gotta mean something has been goin on...... has anyone actually heard them? I caught the tailend of one, where a pilot can be heard saying, 'I'm gonna be sick,' 'God, we're goin to jail'..............

jeezus - some people ????????
fucking dumbasses. they say they have the most advanced technology and yet they cant cleary determine is a target is friendly or hostile. they should develop a brain CPU to make them less stupid.
they dont deserve jail, they should be whipped a couple of times for killing friendlies, so does their commander in chief...
best in the world, or worse?

you also gotta relize, I have seen it a few times, the VS17 panel (the orange marker) is also used by the enemy when they dont want to get shot at by us. Just like they started getting IR markings on they jihad suits cause they know if spectre gunships see a IR strobe,or panel they will not fire on them.SgtHeihn wrote:
Friendly Fire makes me sick, those pilots and the ground control should be fried..... His fucking wing man was even saying,"I see orange pannels on the vehicals". When I was in Iraq we had to put orange air panels on all our vehicals to mark them friendly from aircraft. That video was somone worried about getting kills, shit they weren't even taking ground fire, that should have been the first clue, and second the ORANGE FUCKING AIR PANELS!!!
edit: I'm American and a Vet and I think that this is wrong
Bad things happen in war. Dont get your panties in a bunch over it. The friendly fire rate is the LOWEST its ever been in any war. But as we get smarter so does the enemy.
And why is it these bastards have RPG 29's? cause someone is supplying them with that crap. I know we don't give the Iraqi army RPG 29's. Yet these insurgents get them and know how to use them.
ORANGE FUCKING PANELS dont mean shit when the conbat controller guides the aircraft on scene.
look at the spectre that shot the US SF team a few years ago. The combat contoller was confused, and scared , he got on te radio and fed the wrong grid to the pilots who thought they were supressing the enemy, and as it turns out, this silent professional told the pilots his own grid and got lit up. It happens no matter how much training is given no one can know how someone is going to react under extremely accurate enemy fire. I for one know that the radios are full of clatter once the fire pours in and I myself have relayed and given the wrong inormation due to garbled transmissions/stress under fire/ and lack of 100% situational awarness.

my psychologists are there for that, but thanks anyway to care about me
Its not only the pilots...the combat controller messed up. The fast movers will not do anything unless there is a jackass on the radio guiding them in. ESpecially when theres "Danger close" (grunt speak for friendlies close to the attack path)=OBS= EstebanRey wrote:
That's strange; when the Americans bombed Al-Zarqawi they couldn't wait to release the video. In fact they had some smug General talking us through the guy's death and yet when it comes to friendly fire they take four years and still claim it's "classified".aardfrith wrote:
because it's classified. it's standard practice not to admit that anything that's classified actually exists.
The most horrendous thing about that video is when one of the pilots refers to the orange marking on top of the British Vehicles (a supposed fail-safe for preventing this kind of thing) and his Co-Pilot brushes it off because enemy rocket launchers are orange too. I’m sure in the heat of war, you have to make split second decisions but if there was a 50/50 chance that the orange was enemy or friendly surely you don’t bomb!
I have been told this saying several times about WW2
"When the British fired the Germans ducked, when the Germans fired the British ducked, when the Americans fired everyone ducked" or something like that.
Why didn't the British have electronic recognition software, IFF I think it is called. Probably too expensive so the old British Government decides to not buy it.

yes we have that software in our airforce, but ground units are differentcommissargizz wrote:

This is a classic case of not implementing readily available technology into this because for a start they should have much better contact with the British than the time took for a message to get through what good did it do? The information is key in this you have to see the battle in real time. If say they used like transponders in every friendly vehicle that transmitted a signal that could be read by the fighters HUD I mean a sort of Net Bat but obviously permanently seen by the pilot.I know its been done so why don't we have it reflects badly on the British government.
In this day an age is visual contact enough ? If it is then shouldn't the pilots be taught to know allied vehicle which is a hell of alot of learning. I didn't realize that radio contact was that bad too the distortion and random interface was massive.
I cant blame the pilots in the end i am British and i cannot hold them accountable because its the system of communication is flawed they just didn't get the intel they needed, he fucking asked for confirmation enough times to know he wasn't sure himself but he was just following orders in the end. The cover up is bad though i think blue on blue has been report before so why withhold this incident it is most odd.

Why are grounds forces different? I saw an interview with Colonel Bob Stewart this morning on GM-TV (crap channel but he was on when I switched the TV on) and he asked the same question.
IFF software for aircraft is completly different then the ground system. The fact that most ground vehicles als now carry an ECM device further makes any GPS "blue force" tracker inop. Friendly icons tend to drift away while being used with an ECM. I do know the US istalls the friendly forces tracking systems in most friendly forces trucks. But like I said ECM's jam the signal, and its a line of sight thing if your out in the middle of nowhere and theres no reciever to boost the signal its not going very far.ELITE-UK wrote:

Theres things that fit in with every story people will not find unless they know about what really happens.
We are trying to limit blue on blue, sometimes no matter how hard we try its going to happen is sad, but war is sad, people die defending other peoples beliefs. for the sake of freedom, democracy whatever the evils of war are always the same, and there will always be friendly fire no matter what we do to limit it.
Or maybe they stupidly assumed that by simply telling the American command where our troops were, wouldn't get shot at.commissargizz wrote:

Oh, and why is it always the US we here about when it comes to friendly fire? Proof that American Soldiers are badly trained?
i feeel sori for the A 10 piolets. man stupid intel guys screwed up. the guy wus cryin an all. sorry dudes
Seeing that video made me feel sorry for all parties involved. Poor Brits on the ground, poor pilots. When the dude announced there were friendly "yellow light armored tanks" you could just hear the pilot going... AHH SHIT.
If anyone's to blame I guess it would be the intel dudes on the radio?

Yeah, I think it's pretty important to understand that the pilots weren't saying: "OMG LET'S KILL SOME BRITS!!!"LaidBackNinja wrote:

It was a complete accident and they sounded completely devastated.
From the tone of the pilots I dont think they are devistated. Dumb americans bomb anything that moves.... I hope they dont try to fuck 'everything' that moves too.Sgt_Sieg wrote:

What do you mean by cover up? Since when do we have a right to know?

The family have the right to know some trigger happy yank has killed there son dumb ass, if it was a good kill on the enemy you can bet we would of seen it all over CNN, but no yet another friendly fire kill from the good old USA mighty military so lets try keep this one out of the public eye.usmarine2007 wrote:

Watch the video, those pilots were NOT trigger happy. They asked for confirmation and 'command' ensured them that there were no friendlies near. When the pilots heard they had fired on Brits they were devastated. One got sick and the other cried. Fuck me but I can't blame those pilots. I just can't.

Right, we AMERIKKKANs bomb everything. Fucking retard. Honestly, I have no other way of putting it.--->[Your]Phobia<--- wrote:
