Risking your life just to try and get an education. America has come a long way in recent years. Today we here in the USA have an African American running for President and also in the position of United States Secretary of State. There is still a great amount of work to be done, but times have changed for the better and freedom is prevailing. Looking back it's hard to imagine that it was only 53 years ago that we saw these images.
The Governor of the state of Arkansas knew there was nothing he could do to
override the Federal ruling so his response was to pull the national guard in order
to make the situation extremely dangerous to try and prevent desegregation.
