As much as I hate fox, part of our democracy involves letting the crazies / loofa fetish people speak. So while I dont like it, I can support silencing it as that would be an erosion of our liberty. Besides, watchin Bill-O make an ass of himself or any other show is just funny. Even if it does make Americans look like tards, so does paris hilton but nobody will shut her up...

Should Fox News be wiped off the face of the Earth?

While I hate Bill O'Rly, it was more fun watching the liberals fail and make asses of themselves with their own radio channel.golgoj4 wrote:

I think its sad that in this country our news outlets have to be described as being conservative or liberal, its the very epitome of bias that makes both points of views mute.
Aren't we all glad in the 80s we had a president that decided that allowing all the News outlets to merge was a great idea....hurray for centralizing control.
Strategic move anyone?

FOX News is sickening. It's a cancer - helping to make America a coutnry of two polar opposite camps rather than propagating a truly pluralistic society. It's motto should be 'You're either with us or against us' - much like those two heinous characters General Francisco Franco and George Walker Bush stated starkly. Also - it shouldn't be CNN and FOX News - it should be CON (O for opinion) and FOX Opinion.

I always laugh when i see fauxs motto "fair and balanced" xD keep up the good work u lying bastards ppl need to laugh at ur stupid channel rupert lad
Fox News is a good social filter, I automatically know that anyone who says they only watch Fox News is functionally retarded. anyone who quotes Billy'O is a moron. If this network didn't exist these people would simply blend in with the rest of society, with only Rush to sooth their tiny little brains.
It is a very effective social filter I must concur.Reciprocity wrote:

As much as I hate Fox News, I believe in a free press. Unfortunately, a free press generally consists of the spreading of more disinformation than of information.
That being said, Fox News is a necessary evil.

nice pic of the sheep
Everyone with half a thumbnail of intelligence knows almost all news is filled with editorial comment nowdays. When one watches the news, one forms an opinion. If the news organizations want to express their opinion while reporting, that's fine. That is why I choose to watch and listen to stations who most closely match my values. When I want to research an issue, I compare differing sources to arrive at an opinion. That's the beauty of free speech - opinions that are polar opposites, giving the viewer or listener the ability to choose. Eliminating the expression of an opposing viewpoint is not a hallmark of a pluralistic society of which you speak, CPoe. A truly pluralistic society promotes the coexistence of opposing and varying points of view, it does not seek to eliminate one or the other.CameronPoe wrote:

I find it very interesting that those who claim to advocate tolerance, acceptance, diversity etc etc seek to eliminate a news organization simply because they don't agree with its editorial slant. I don't want CNN, MSNBC, ABC, CBS, and NBC eliminated even though I rarely agree with most of their opinions.
Weren't FOX the ones that actually went to court to defend their right to just lie, mislead, falsify or just plain make up the news?
Oh and just in case people didn't know Bloomberg, FOX, CNBC and CNN are all available in the UK (if you pay for them on cable/satellite tv).

I don't seek to have it eliminated - if it were in my country I would seek to have it branded as non-news or have a very clear delineation between what is news and opinion in big bright bold letters on the top of the screen - one should always allow freedom of speech but one should employ some simple regulating checks and balances where unfettered propaganda comes into play. Most people are susceptible to propaganda, especially in the lower echelons of society, and they all have votes - one should facilitate the process of them making their OWN minds up in as clear a manner as possible. Such subliminal propaganda is the reason why some ridiculous percentage of Americans believe Iraq was to blame for 9/11 or that Israel is a squeaky clean do-gooder.Stingray24 wrote:

Ummm...turn the channel?
I had to vote no. As others have already noted, I don't like Fox news, but I would never presume to shut them down because of it.
Best answer, Karma him.Pug wrote:

That makes absolutely no sense! I'd much rather bitch about them on a video game forum. That'll show 'em!Pug wrote:

I don't even watch televised news, and I find this to be ridiculous. You'd have to destroy every other left or right-leaning station, just to be fair. And the people best able to do it'd be the government. Anyone who voted yes must love censorship.

I tried, but the Republicans are controlling my TV. Heeeelp! I wanted to watch the Super Bowl, but Shawn Hannity and Bill O'Reilly kept talking to me! Ahhhhhh!Pug wrote:

With a can of Red Bull and a pack of Mentos I can solve anything on the interweb. Go write that down.
I could lie, too, but I would be worried about my credibility.KillerKane0 wrote:
Nah, FOX News is okay.
It's the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation that should be destroyed. Absolutely awful. They praised 9/11, said the Nazis fought a clean war, and basically waste C$1b a year. Get rid of it now.
Seriously, where is this coming from?
Oh no threads are merging.

A very fitting thread title, indeed.
