Yes, because of immigration -- as I mentioned above.  Being shorter on average because of differences in the racial makeup of the population isn't a problem.

Now, it is true that the hormones present in our milk and certain preservatives in other foods have an effect on our growth as a people, but the effects are so varied that it is hard to make a generalization about the end results.  It has, however, been proven that the bovine growth hormones that are injected into our cows and are then consumed by us in our milk can negatively affect the growth and development of our children, but that's another discussion altogether....

Sorry to say deez... but your overweight. you are 18 stone, at 6'4" as i am too you should be around 15 stone. so you are 42 pounds overweight. Thats based on the BMI. Either than or you are mega man with muscles the size of something big.
The BMI is inaccurate. I only have 14.5 percent body fat. I bet you most people that weigh less than me and are the same height have a higher body fat percentage. I'll put money on it. I am really into weights. I have a small gym in my basement and I lift 4 times a week for about 2 hours each. Any more than that is over kill to me. I work back, bi's, tri's, shoulder, chest, abs, lower back, legs, and forearms (not all at once obviously). I became a weight nazi on my first overseas tour and now I do it because it releives stress but I can assure you I am not overweight. Anyone who wants some tips or advise I can help to in a PM or maybe we can start a excercise thread and I wil contribute. I am a strength and Conditioning coach for a high school football team so I have some decent regiments if anyone is interested. I love this stuff.

The BMI is quite accurate actually, but of course, now that you mentioned your body fat % -- it makes sense now.  A healthy range for a man is 10 - 20% body fat.  So yeah, you're healthier than the average American.  A healthy range for a woman is 15 - 25%.

Come to think of it, I might have a higher percentage than you in body fat, but I haven't measured it since I was college.  Back then, mine was 12%.

It is accurate on a sliding scale and that is a fact. I have a higher muscle mass index than most people so I am obviously going to weigh more (we all know muscle weighs more than fat) than someone the same height. That does not determine that I am overweight on an accurate scale though. My friend Joe I work with is the exact same height as me and weighs ten pounds less. He looks like shit and has a pot belly. He is overwieght. If you dont want to exercise than you need to eat more healthy and avoid lazy habits to stay trim. I eat 6 - 8 times a day to keep the fuel going but I run 3 miles before my workouts and ride the bike for half an hour to cool down after so I burn my fuel.

Nice...  Yeah, I need to start an exercise regiment sometime soon, but I'm already working on my diet.

And yeah, muscle weighs 3 times as much as fat per equal volume.

If you have access to a pool, swim. Swimming is such a good way to build a foundation to a good body but pools are usually expensive. Otherwise I would suggest 1 half hour of Cardio per day, every other day for a month. It works and will train your body to not reject the work out regime that is to come. Do not start with big weights just use excersises like push ups, pull ups (palms forward work back, palms facing you work biceps) and light weights with high reps. A good 4-6 months of all that and you will be jacked your 3rd month into lifting.

wow this article is rooted in science...right.

im 5'10, 160. a bit on the thin side..but to much, i was 180 last year after heavy drinking, but ive been working out alot.

anyway it's genetics, the melting pot that is this damn nation. not pure anymore.

like it ever was anyway.

also it could be a mixture of the overuse of psychological drugs  like prozac, ritalin, etc etc that is causing growth problems in this country. nowdays almost every kid who shows some sign of being hyper, not all there or generally a fuck up. gets thrown on all sorts of fancy drugs which stunt growth

i should know i was one of those kids=]

The survey didn't specify an ethnic group so you're probably right.

It certainly took a lot of time to do this survey so imagine the time it would have took to specify ethnic groups.
