Hi guys so can anyone help me? I've been playing BF2 for a few months now with this same setup.

ISP: UKOnline.

Through to my,

Belkin High-Speed Mode Wireless G Router 802.11g (Model F5D7231uk4)

Which beams to my,

Belkin Wireless High Speed Mode USB Adapter  (Model F5D7051uk)

Connected to my,

3.2Ghz P4 800mhz FSB
1.5GB DDR RAM
40GB IDE HDD
160 SATA HDD
256MB Radeon 9800XT
SB Audigy 2 7.1

So with the formalities out the way i've always played with around a 15-50ms ping no problem but a couple of days ago I noticed my browser was a bit slow loading pictures etc thought nothing of it until I went to play BF2 where all the pings on the server list where over 500ms. I thought maybe there was a spike when I was loading them so I clicked on a server which is normally 20ms but it was still 450ms+ none of the other computers on our netword where turned on so I put it down to maintenence or something.

A few days passed and everything went back to normal, until yesterday same shit is happening. I ran CMD and pinged my router, 1ms reponse so I go on to ping google.co.uk and a few others and I'm also getting 500ms+ pings.

I restarted my router and PC still not difference, clicked repair network connections nothing, I can't play BF2 *wipes tear from eyes*.

I know it's not a problem with my router or computer cause I can just about pick up my neighbours wireless connection and play fine with 30ms ping and that's from accross the street! But after about 20mins ingame the game hangs and I lose connection.

So any help would be appreciated, if you've had this problem yourself or similiar? did it go away? what can i do?

As any of you who have dealt with UKonline before will know it is IMPOSSIBLE to get through to a customer service rep on the phone and when you do they are generally of little help and I find myself being passed back and forth for sometimes over 2 hours with no resolve so ringing them is a LAST resort as it is national rate and tech support is premium rate!!!!

Thanks for reading all this crap and your help in advance.

I am not a tech guy, sorry. But I will move this to BF2:Help, as your issue has nothing to do with bf2s.com ( the site ).

good luck

Check your connection plan with your ISP, maybe you've gone over your download limit and your bandwidth has been scaled back to 64kbps or 128kbps.

try Dan Elwells Broadbandspeed Test (sry havent got link handy, google it), its a free utility which will test pings and upload speeds, and provide a report you can submit to your ISP if you want. And i cant wait for my contract to finish so i can signup with Zen, which has been recommended to me by all who use it.

do you use any p2p file sharing software, like bittorent/kazza/limewire? sometimes they don't log you out correctly and leave you with thousands of people trying to connect to your computer to download your porn. this is most likely the problem. other than that, scan for viruses/trojans that may be eating up all your bandwidth.

Well 1st thing what you should do is call to your ISP. So you said that you can play as normal with your neighbour's wireless connection (that 20 mins) but is your own connection wireless or not? If not, then your modem can be broken of course and you should test your connection with some other modem. Also that big wire in the ground which are coming to your house (and to your telephone plug) can be broken (again, just if you are not using wireless connection) and you need call to your ISP if it's so (only they can really know it).

I had exactly the same problem, was playing for months no probs then all of a sudden in Jan pings through the roof. I did all the speed tests, including the bt hardware test and it all came back as expected. I phoned my ISP, PLUS.net, and they said they were having probs with the ports that BF2 require. And sinc the call all was back to normal. The funny thing was that CS:S was fine when BF2 couldnt get less than 200. Anyway sorted now, so time to kill, but mostly die.

If you connect to your neighbor's access point and it works just fine, then it's not a problem with your computer hardware, with the software on your computer, or with your wireless adapter. If you are pinging your router at 1ms that's good, and means it's probably not your router either.

I'm assuming it's DSL. It could be the dsl modem itself. It could be the cables between the router and modem, or from the modem to the phone jack. It could also just be your isp having problems on their end, but if your neighbor was on the same isp and his connection was fine, then it's probably not your ISP (since both your connections probably connect to the same dslam, and share the backbone that dslam has).

You can do a traceroute to see what kind of results you get. Just goto command prompt and type 'tracert ip' where ip is the ip of a server or a website address that's lagging. You could post the results here if they confuse you.

How long does this last? Days? Hours? Minutes? Does it fluxuate (fine one minute, crappy the next minute) or is it bad all the time?

Sorry to give you all this "well it could be this" and "it might be that" but high pings can be caused by a lot of things. Hopefully we can get it figured out

CSAR looks like he's got the right idea, it could be the ports that BF2 uses that your ISP has set to have low upload/download speeds.. give them a call and find out fo' sho

I highly doubt its that if the problem is intermittent.
