I'm researching the geography of Joshua Tree for a book I'm trying to write. The geologist can look back ten thousand years through sedimentary layers and erosion patterns and they state casually that in the last ten thousand years the soil record indicates a roller coaster ride from ice age glacier locked climate back to temperate times and back again.
One reason why life has exploded in numbers of species and range of their spread is because we have enjoyed a long period of relative geological calm.
The clinmate is changing. Has changed and continously does so, getting people worked up about imaginary solutions to imaginary problems just distracts them from the real issues of illegal immigration and a already bankrupt social security system.
Cut pollution, fine. Alternative fuels, fine. Alarmist quick fixes designed mostly to hamstring and weaken America ( Kyoto ) no thank you.

I agree Kyoto is rubbish. The emissions cuts it proposes are stupid and it's not very fair. China should absolutely not have any exemptions - they're in a better fiscal position to implement emission cuts than the US anyway and are a big polluter - still much less than the US though.

Summer here should have started in november, its february and its only just starting. Parts of the country also had snow in January (supposed to be our hottest month) when they should have had lots of sunshine. Too much climate variation for it to be natural.CruZ4dR wrote:

PARIS - A long-awaited report says global warming is "very likely" man-made, the most powerful language ever used on the issue by the world's leading climate scientists, delegates who have seen the report said Thursday.
In the end, there was little debate on the strength of the wording about human activity most likely to blame.
"That is a big move. I hope it is a powerful statement," said Jan Pretel, head of the department of climate change at the Czech Hydrometeorological Institute.

While critics call the panel overly alarmist, it is by nature relatively cautious because it relies on hundreds of scientists, including skeptics and industry researchers.

But then we don't do a fucking about it... at least : many of us don't do a fucking thing about it.
We need some serious enviroiment international conventions , not as the Kyoto one.
And we need that the countries apply them in the REALITY , not only ideally.

The GWP is the ratio of the warming caused by a substance to the warming caused by a similar mass of carbon dioxide. Thus, the GWP of CO2 is defined to be 1.0 . thing is these fkn weasel scientists bang on bout global warming, and at the end of the speech they jump into their petrol cars and fuck off home to their coal fires.(exaggeration) i know, but its peoples mindsets, its changing what they do thats the problem, and its down to everyone. will i change my petrol lowride pimp car? probably not, so i am as much to blame as everyone, so how feasibly do we sort it out? im not sure, as im fuckin pissed, but fo shizzle we better sort it out within our lifetime. / rant.
Uhm.... is from relatively poor time that is pollunting in significant ways so the ''third world'' nations. They are reaching the same level of usa and euro economics.... they need those industries to repair some errors done in the past.... and to guarantee a decent standard. By some years they will be ready to plan a sustainable development program.... and also the usa will need to do that. All will need to agree.... in every case the world will last poor time if it keeps going this way.madmurre wrote:

Then go and read some of the official reports on climate change from the IPCC, Royal Society, NAS and NASA.

That's taken totally out of context. There are nothing like the same quantity of CFCs being released into the atmosphere as Carbon. Look at the impact of CFCs on the overall greenhouse gas effect. Note the fact that CFCs as greenhouse gases are measured by parts per trillion (ppt) not parts per million (ppm) like CO2.Major_Spittle wrote:

You are just searching for arguments to support your own conclusions, which you're not doing very well at.
If you want to make a proper argument of it, you could always read this:
http://www.grida.no/climate/ipcc_tar/wg1/160.htm
But that's assuming you actually give a damn, which I doubt.
