hey guys i was just wondering why the hell does fraps make me lag like hell when im recording? if anyone could help i would be very grateful

Um, because it's recording...which uses up system resources.
It's basically taking screenshots about 24-40 times per second.

You could try Game Cam.
I have never used it, it's a replacement for Fraps that isnt such a resource hog.

Does fraps compress it while it is recording? That would explain the terrible performance o.O

im assuming you dont have a 64 bit or X2 processor
thats why its lagging as your computer is trying to multitask on a 32bit 1 core processor
i either say try game cam see if thats ne better
upgrade your pc
or live with the fact that you cant fraps without it being laggy as fook

it doesnt matter if he is useing a 64 bit or a 32 bit proc as long as he runs xp. no 64 bit instructions are used in a 32 bit environment.Zero!. wrote:

why does it lag? it takes up loads of cpu, ram and hd resources

When I use fraps it lags like hell, with my 2 GB RAM and Geforce 7600GS 256MB.

I was reading around their support forum, it would seem that GameCam is uselss with any game gaurded by Punk Buster. They have no future plans to enable it to work around Punk Buster.stkhoplite wrote:

Set Fraps to record at half size. I was able to record at a constant 60fps on my old rig (amd 3000, x1600)
lower your resolution ingame too. also think about what graphic settings you can lower without any effect on the movie: low texture settings (too small to see), AA (movies get blurred, AA not really needed), etc.
