Wierd.

I've wondered why I've been paying 2.30+ a gallon.

To make Exxon more money. Stupid me.

ooo, good idea!  Sadly, I'm not very knowledgeable about stocks, just a tid-bit from a high school class... which reminds me (not intending to derail, just a side note) check out www.smartstocks.com.  It's a free stock market simulation game that gives you an imaginary bank account of 1 Mil and let's you see what you can make... since my high school class a couple of years ago (I'm in college now) I've gotten my 1 Mil to roughly 2 Mil now, "owning" various stocks from McDonalds to Sony and other random stocks.  Okay back to the thread.

Yeah, Exxon's just ripping our wallets to shreds with the price of gas lucky bastards raking it in... wouldn't it be nice to be at the top of that payroll!!!

Yeey Democrats, House Repeals Tax Break for Big Oil.

The 2 most profitable quarters for any company EVER were in the past two years by the same company.

It happens to be an oil company, while we are at war with a country with some of the largest oil reserves in the world, with a President that tried to run an oil comany but failed, and the Vice President's old company has the largest contract which they got with no bidding or competition. And we are told this isnt a war for oil or profit?

If you belive, even for a moment, that these companies care more about profits then the lives of the soliders, then how far do you think they would take it?

What other industry gives back profit?  None.  Oil shouldn't either.  Cost is determined by supply and demand.
Making profit is not illegal, it's what companies exist to do.  Just a quick bit or research on what these companies invest in finding the oil and developing new drilling and refining technology will show you where the money goes.  As others have mentioned, every company has stockholders, they want good returns on their investment.  Anyone who has not invested in an oil company is nuts.

PS I don't like it either when the gas at the local station jumps 20 cents in one day when the price per barrel hasn't moved.  That's not big oil's fault, they don't change the prices on the sign at the corner.
