There is an addition to the command line to force BF2 and BF2142 into a widescreen resolution. Have a look on tweakguides.com. It's something like -szy xxxx -szx xxxx (where xxxx is the required res), unforutnately because there is no native support for widescreen this does 2 things.

1. It stretches the HUD so the minmap looks out fo shape.

2. It reduces the vertical field of view so that it doesn't stretch it horizontally.
my command line looks like this

"E:\Program Files\EA GAMES\Battlefield 2\BF2.exe" +menu 1 +fullscreen 1 +szx 1440 +szy 900

it does stretch it a bit bu the only thing that i realy notice in WS is the minimap is more oval than circle

I don't know how it works in OpenGL games (I suspect it's similar) but DirectX renders to a surface that has interfaces (IMonitorConfig) available for managing multiple monitors.  This is built into DirectX and only has to be utilized by the programmers.

Clipping a 3D world to fit a widescreen or cinemascope (2.35:1) display is fairly simple as well.  The fact that BF2 can't do it either at all or very well is an indication of the lack of polish this game has.  Even spanning a widescreen image across two displays is relatively simple (as simple as two CopyRect commands for each side of the image) in DirectX compared to actual 3D geometry coding.

It's obvious that BF2 was rushed, it's obvious EA pushed out a game that wasn't even close to being ready and even with all the patches they've spent as much time adding new features as they have trying to fix shit.  EA should learn from ID... It's done when it's done.

I don't want to hijack the thread but it seems pointless opening a new thread to ask a related question.

Does having two monitors impact on BF2's performance? I mean, with the windows desktop so much bigger does it slow the PC down at all?
I run two monitors, a 19" for the game (1280x1024-85Hz) and a 17" for BF2CC and TS(1024x768-75Hz).
The only time it makes a difference is when I ALT-TAB the game to use BF2CC.
I get lag for about 3 seconds when I go back to the game.

It's really handy, if you can do it, I'd say do it.
Find yourself a cheap monitor, it doesn't have to be good.

I can play it hooked into both my CRT monitor and my 27" T.V.

No difference in lag.
