If you're on foot, you just have to adjust your tactics. Don't spend time in the open where you can't shoot back effectively. Stick close to cover so that you can surprise your enemy close up.

As for weapons, I usually stick with the default shotguns on city maps, but on big open maps like Operation Harvest, Dragon Valley etc., I go with the MP7 since there aren't a lot of close-quarters engagements. Learn how to lay mines too. There's some guides on this site on how to place them to either not be seen, or to make them go off into brush where you've hidden a mine.

However, as everyone has said, armor is really where an engineer belongs...and even better in groups with multiple engineers in armor.

I love Engineer, especially on Sharqi as USMC. That pump shotgun is so deadly. If you're in a close combat fight with one other enemy and you have pretty good aim, you should win. You could also just hop in a tank for the bigger maps and get a ton of kills and then repair yourself when need be. The other good way to rack up the points is always be in the front lines and capture flags. I'm almost always the first one at a flag since I always rush it, that's why I have a lot of deaths but I have a lot of points to make up for it. For example you could look at my stats. I have twice as many capture points than I have capture assist points. You being the first one there will get you 4 points, 2 more than if you weren't first one there. That's what I always tried to do anyways. You will die a lot if you still want to rack up points in that process, but those points will come rolling in...

Engy on Ghost Town rocks too, that's where I got my vet badges... lay your mines and stay near the Convoy flag... lots of CQC there!

Also, save a mine!  If you need to get out to repair your vehicle, lay it under the vehicle.  That way if a baddy tries to swipe it they get a surprise instead (of course there's no chance you'll survive the explosion either).

I'd always choose the Jackhammer over a pump-action shotty anyday, but that's just me, i can't do shit with the Pump-shotguns, so whatever.  I also personally hate the MP7, even though it has the same specs as the P90 (and i love that gun) i can't seem to hit anything with it, o well. I'd say get the Jackhammer + G3 for your unlocks, and just try to stay in a tank if your an Engineer, but if you have to get out, Jackhammer is FTW

Since you are new it would be okay for you to play as engineer and pair up with another noob as Engy in another APC/Tank (at least until 50,000 or all weapon unlocks).

For people of my rank, to do that constantly would be supreme noobish.

You get to lay out mines, and repair ppl beside you. And if you buggy to the other side of the map you get to fix your own ride. and Shotgun is great for CQC.

Well this little tidbit has been mentioned to an extent, but I wanted to add, never be out in the open very long as engineer on foot. When your commander is using a UAV in your area, or is spotting infantry, check your map and know where they are, you can tell which direction they are running and if they are just around the corner or on an opposite side of a building. Another tip is if you encounter an enemy, try to hit the key that opens up the "Spotted" window, and click on him as you fire a round. That way if he runs around a corner, you can see him on your map still because you spotted him. Make sure your 'Sprint' Bar is atleast at 80% and chase after him, or wait for him to come around the other corner and blow him with your shotgun.

Also, if you see you are getting shot at and you dont know where its coming from, do NOT jump. It is actually easier to hit someone when they jump, I just wait until they land and shoot. They slow way down, and when you jump it takes 3 stamina bars away instantly. It is much better to run in a zig zag (/\/\/) pattern RIGHT at the guy shooting (If you are really far away)and then when you get kinda close FIre a shell at him with your pump, then Run zip zag again and Fire again. I get kills all the time this way, although I barely survive it.  I do this when I'm in a rush, it actually would be better to throw a grenade at him first, to get him off his feet and running, THEN you run at him.

Also, the nice thing about the pump...In close combat, no matter what happens if your facing 2-3 guys, after you fire a shell at someone point blank they 90% of the time die, but you still have 2 others to deal with, so immediately after firing just jump up once and kinda move to the side while your in the air while you are loading another shell, and then fire again and repeat! Don't listen or give a damn if people think its lame to jump close quarters. By God you goal is to LIVE and when you got a shotgun with slow reload you should use any advantage you can. Including running away around a corner and just waiting.  Also it is better to run along the walls of buildings where the alleyways are on Karkand. Certainly the best map for infantry kills.

I recommend ANY Armored Fury map for the Engineer kit. I love AF and Midnight Sun is my favorite map, PLA vs USA kinda Urban Combat in Alaska.

Here's a good picture, I killed 3 dudes on my way to the mec hotel, health is still pretty damn good, I got 2 more after that =P

**Another tip is to find a server with all the weapon unlocks (Just use the filter, uncheck ranked. I think thats all u need to uncheck, then type in Weapon/ unlock in the server name. Should bring up some? I know they exsisted before. Test out some guns, see what you like.

I use the MP-7 because I'm chicken. I don't like to get close enough to the enemy for a shot gun to be any use. The MP-7 is pretty accurate so you can usually kill the enemy before they get too close. But the engineer is really best suited to repairing and mining. Direct infantry combat against any other kit will usually result in you dying. Obviously the best way to get kills as engineer is in armour since that's what the kit is designed for.

BTW: Tip for laying mines - put them under water, friendlies can still see them due to the big skull and cross bones, but they'll be really hard for the enemy to see.

What he said AND bunnyhopping. Shoot for the head, strafe jump, shoot to the head, strafe jump, endure calls from your victim accusing you of doubtable heredity, repeat the process. Outkill all medics and outscore most of the team by flag capping. It's a great feeling.

With an assault rifle you can kill maybe three people in a full squad as they gang up on you (on average)... with a shotgun you can kill all six and their little dog too. M117 and the DAO own.

I hardly ever play as engineer, but Ive been learning armor a little more lately....
Pump shot gun and an APC.

The pump shot gun needs to be an unlock because I don't like having to use the jackhammer if I'm not USA
