Hi all,
I haven't played BF2 in about a year now (my useless stats:http://bf2s.com/player/58720910/ )....but felt like playing again.

So I d/led the 1.41 patch ~ the really BIG one because I just know there were other patches.
Install it.
Game won't start...locks up at "connecting to" screen.
I can't alt/tab out of the screen.
I can't alt/tab/delete out the screen
I can't alt/F4 out either.
I give the comp a hard crash and restart.
OK, now it starts...I play for about 2 hours last night.

Today...same sh*t ...locks up at the "connecting to" screen.
I read and read all the threads about getting the thing to start.
I d/l, install and run CCleaner.
No good...still locks up...
...and as an added bonus, your forum is also forked up....the "home" page *should* have a nice BF2 logo on it - GONE; the forums are *supposed* to have bars and stuff between the various areas - GONE. I'm sure some other websites will be equally hideous to look at now also.

So now what to do?
You guys should really help me here - I make an excellant victim to help increase your stats

Um, fresh install? Always fixes my problems, although it's a pain in the ass.

Last year, when I decide I needed to work more and play less, I uninstalled BF2.
Essentially, this was a clean install...installed BF2, tried to run it knowing it wouldn't, then installed 1.41....I was actually surpised that my player name came right back.

When that happens to me, it's normally norton telling me "a program is trying to access the internet..." and for some reason i can't minimise sometimes when that happens, so try opening BF2 in windowed mode.

I haven't tried disabling the AV...but it did work last night with the AV running.

You cant ALT + TAB out of apps at certain times when they are in the middle of high mem usuage (i get the same). Just wait for connected or cant connect, then ALT + TAB.

It just pisses me off that it did work and now it doesn't.

....on a related tangent....
I also d/led and played the 2142 demo...this game would work for about 3 minutes at a clip before informing me that the connection was lost.

So it's a full install. I don't know. 1.41 is a full patch I believe, so you shouldn't have problems. I can't really help you much more.

The "connecting to account" screen never gives up. I recently had a firewall issue and the stupid fw dialog with "allow?" couldn't get through the screen... Btw, why the hell does it take so loooong to connect to the account server?! Once I typed my passwd wrong and on the second attemp it connected at a few second so apparently it can be fast. Just not on the first try..

try the "Battlefield 2" shortcut instead of the "battlefield Play Online Now"
And if you get inside,delete all servers in Multiplayer - favorites (you can do it from the outside too, but I don't know the exact files so...)

Perhaps your firewall is mucking about with the connection?

If you're using Zone Alarm and the problem occurs, press "r", then "a" and you'll be ready to start killing.

just do fresh install followed by full patch then update gfx and sound drivers it worked for me when i had the same probs
