its all settings problems. whoever said 1 gb of ram isnt good enough can go suck an utter. 1 gig is plenty. i have friends with 6600gt 256 cards and 512 mb of stock intel ram (which isnt bad at all) that run thr game flawlessly. i have 1gb of ram and an xfx nvidia geforce 6600gt 128mb agp card, 3.0ghz pentium 4, biostar mobo, etc etc. and it runs great on my comp.

I have the 6600 OC 256MB with 2 gigs of RAM and no chop at all.  The settings I use are ( in order on the video tab) 1280 x 960 100Hz, med, med, high, med, med, low, low, 2X, med, 100%.  I used that tweak guide (www.tweakguides.com/BF2_1.html) to guage what is best and it works good for my system.

The Video Card nor the ram is the problem here...

The cpu is the bottleneck. I had that cpu as of last week and recent bought an amd 4000+ and neo platnium mobo, I have yet to see choppyness of any kind. Did I mention I have the same exact video card. Mind you if your using cheap memory (paticularily the PNY brand) Don't expect everything to be gorgeous and smooth. Yes Video Cards are the primary "booster" of gameplay, but if your cpu can't process the informaton quick enough it will delay, hench causing the choppyness.

My Current system specs are:

AMD 4000+ @ 2475 (225 x 11)
MSI Neo2 Platinum
BFG 6800gt OC (stock speeds)
1GB Corsair xms 3200-c2pro (pc3200)
2 200GB sata WD drives
Thermaltake Big Typhoon heatsink
Audgiy 2 ZS
MAD DoGG 600 watt PSU

If you really must save some cash and go 64 bit, your gpu and memory size are fine. The Cpu must be put to death. I don't know how to run a benchmark in bf2 but my CS:S stress test runs were at 141.72 fps Full Everything.

I have:

AMD XP2800+
Asus A7N8X-E Deluxe
eVGA nVidia 6800GT
Corsair XMS PC3200 1024mbx2
Win XP

I do not lag or chop at all and I have every setting set to max and Anti-Aliasing at 4x.

I have a 6800 Ultra, AMD 64 3500+, a pair of decent low-lat Corsair 512MB sticks and a BFG 6800Ultra OC, running BF2 on a WD74GB Raptor hard drive and hardware-driven sound on an Audigy 2 ZS. I still hit the occasional lag bump a bit with all details turned up. I compensate by leaving AA off and lighting on medium. Then it runs flawlessly. I could probably turn it back up if I added another GB of memory to my system. BF2 does suck up quite a bit.
