Alright I had a nasty problem with BF2 not starting & even 2 reformats didn't solve it. I can now say for absolutely 100% sure that it was System Mechanic 7 that was causing my problems. Ever since I got the game to work on my clean reformat I've been reinstalling all my programs & stuff one by one to make sure I could figure out what the problem was if it happened again. I used System Mechanic for a long time somehow without a problem but now every time I try to install it I get the same problem again. Once I uninstall it though BF2 runs fine. I think it has something to do with the SysAnalyzer process it runs in the background but I'm not sure.

So anyway my point is if your having problems with BF2 crashing after the splash screen & you have System Mechanic installed, try uninstalling & rebooting.

Shame too because I love that program

I had the same problem!  Run msconfig to get into your System Configuration Utility and uncheck "iolo DMV service".  When you re-start your machine iolo's monitoring function which blocks your Battlefield Software should be disabled and allow a clean start.
Good luck.
