Yep I know a chick who is the only Female on a merchant navy supply ship. She's an navigational officer. She has 1000's of American and British Marines on her ship regularly and she gets about them. She is beautiful though. She was telling me that at least 1000 US marines bared their asses at the same time to her from the dock as she was out the side of the bridge trying to Parallel park a 160m supply ship in Iraqi, she pranged the ship and got held back on her promotion, lol women drivers!!deeznutz1245 wrote:

In the military, any military, your job is to fight and protect your country. Why is being "extended" such a bad thing according to the media? To be honest, your job is on the battlefield, not at home.
Soldiers are people too. They, like anyone else, want to do their job and come home to their loved ones. For the average worker, this means going to work for 8-12 hours and then coming home. For a soldier it's 8-12 months and it's a hell of a lot more intense, stressful, etc. than an office block or a manufacturing plant.
If you tell a salary-slave they will have to do an extra four hours before they can go home to see their wife/child/mistress/domina or whatever, they'll probably welcome the extra pay but still be unhappy. And their wife/etc. will also be unhappy. Translate that to the battlefield and it's probably the same story. Everyone has someone they want to see when they get back and that feeling will be reciprocated amongst the people back home - they'll want their soldier-boy back in their arms.
Yes, your job is to protect your country. That's the pledge you agree to when you sign up. You do your tour of duty and then you go home for a bit of R&R.
I've never been in the military myself so feel free to correct me if I've got it wrong.
Then why, pray tell, are they sending an additional 20,000 troops to Iraq? That's kind of like admitting that they were overstretched in Iraq, let's face it.deeznutz1245 wrote:

Actually, its kind of like saying we need more troops over there. We have more troops still over here. We will send more troops over there. I think that is what they are saying.CameronPoe wrote:

I have an idea - let's take a poll:
All those who think the military should reinforce with fresh troops and not extend the current tour, say nay.
All those who are OK with extending the tours of experienced personnel already in theater, say aye.
Ok now here comes the fun part. All the nays run, don't walk, to your nearest recruiting station and sign up for a branch of the armed forces, preferably in some type of combat role. That should take care of the shortfall and we can bring those boys home.

I have been extended plenty of times in combat zones, humanitarian missions, and peace time also, so I am not just talking out of my ass.SgtHeihn wrote:
Ok, you went to High School, be extended in that! being extended in a combat zone sucks ass, try being on edge 24/7, its not fun, the Army does 12mo combat tours and the Marines do 7mo, thats long enough.usmarine2007 wrote:

So why don't they send more over to Iraq and Afghanistan so those that have finished their tour of duty don't have to suffer an extension of their tour?deeznutz1245 wrote:

Nay. I will not rush to the recruiting office, I have already taken my drive to the prior service recruiter.

There isn't an unlimited supply of QUALIFIED troops to send over. So what you do is cycle the troops available. Since the US has commitments accross the globe, troops cycle throught the different duty stations. One of the things you have to be really careful of, though, is pulling out your experienced soldiers and throwing in a bunch of inexperienced "noobs"; especially in high tension areas like Iraq and Afghanistan where native relations are critical to success.
Because the "Extension" is a deceitful way of saying: You signed the line your ass is mine. What is all of this bullshit about extensions all of a sudden. I understand in the civilian world your employer cant force you to do something, and if you dont like something you can quit. In the military when you enlist or become commissioned, it doesnt matter where you go or how long you go for. YOU have INITIATED an agreement, a contract to serve. You take an oath. You are forewarned in your papers that there is a chance you will be deployed up to and including your entire enlistment. Deal with it like a man, like a professional soldier. When I was stuck away from the States on bullshit deployments I used to say " Wha the fuck did "I" do " " I never should have signed". Then I sucked it up and carried on like a Marine does. I never carried on whah whah whah this war is illegal, whah whah I wanna go home, wha whah I got sand in my clit. The deployment extension should not be a factor to the troop, he should be worrying about his gear, his ammo, his squad members, the enemy, the mission, etc. There is something bred into Marines and any jarhead will know what I am talking about. #1 Mission AccomplishmentCameronPoe wrote:

I would do it in a heart beat, but I am outside of the recruitment standards now. I spent five years in the Marine Corps and did some time in Somalia, supporting the embassy evac. If they'd take an overweight 34 year old, I'd reup if the situation got tenuous. As it is, recruiters aren't having a lot of difficulty finding volunteers. Curious that is not reported in the main stream press...aardfrith wrote:

No, I am out now and am done playing that game. But like I said, I have been extended plenty of times before 9/11 also.aardfrith wrote:

That's fair enough. If they are contractually obliged then I don't see what the big deal is.deeznutz1245 wrote:

They are. I think a big problem with our Reserve forces are that a lot of kids do it for money or education, uniform to get laid, whatever. When poop hits the wind maker they all of a sudden dont want to do their part. Not all are like that but the ten percenters ruin it for the good guys.
Malloy must go
What's worse is the ten percenters are the only ones you see on the TV or in the news with their "This war is illegal"bs and I didn't sign up for this. That's the line that pisses me off the most. Some people think they get to choose once they join. You sign your life away, literally. You are walking dead and the sooner this is understood, the easier the service is.deeznutz1245 wrote:

Why thank you, feel free to use it. I stole it from a mean ol son of a bitch Master Gunny sgt.

Yeah, I'd agree with that. Being in an area of such high stress and pressure 24/7 is not fun, whether it's their job or not. Periodic leave to somewhere nearby but yet safe for a week every so often would do them a lot of good.Major_Spittle wrote:
I know when I was in the Army being in the field sucked without people shooting at you. If the US would give them some bar time every few weeks to blow off steam I'm sure they would be happy and content with the extention.
