so I'm thinking about purchasing and installing SF, but I already have three unlocks. I know that there are third tier unlocks, does that mean when I start playing SF I will have three unlocks for SF or will I never be able to get them?

LOL, no you don't.

There are three tiers of weapons in vanilla: stock + two tiers of unlocks. That's it.

Once you install it, you need to play a game to activate it. Then, when you next get promoted, you get two unlocks plus however many you're owed.

SF is well worth purchasing, all the new maps and toys are by far alot of fun, the weapons are cool.  But after a while the maps seem to be the bollocks, and the regular guns are just as nice!!

Ah, yes. Welcome to your newbie-ness, when everything seems fresh and new and exciting. Delight in being able to climb up tall buildings. Giggle as you go skimming across the rooftops on a zipline. Curse as someone removes it and kills you. Try not to puke over the jetski view movement. Try and figure out WTF is going on when it's too dark to see and nightvision makes it too bright. Curse even more as you stumble off a building without seeing the edge.

Okay... did you try actually searching for any info?

There aren't three tiers of unlocks in vanilla or in SF.

There are three tiers of guns in vanilla, stock + unlocks 1 and 2.

There are two tiers of guns in Special Forces, stock + an unlock, IF you've unlocked that class's weapon in vanilla. If you haven't yet unlocked a weapon for a given class you'll only have the stock gun available to you (the Special Forces stock gun, not always the same as the stock gun in vanilla).

One of the things you really want to know I guess is what'll happen when you get Special Forces and play it for the first time: the unlock window will show up again (it might be as soon as you've exited the SF server or when you start BF2 again, I can't remember).

In your case you've already unlocked three guns so you'll have three new unlock options available.

The next two times you get promoted you'll have two unlocks instead of just one.

And as Furious=UKLF= said, SF is great; well worth getting to play, not just for the extra unlocks it gives you in vanilla.

Once you play one round in SF it will give you 2 unlocks, then you'll get 2 each time you get a promotion

I only just bought the damn expansion, I'm still in the process of making repeated newbie mistakes. Gimme a damn break.
