Mouse Cursor Arrow Freezes on Spawn/Select Weapons Screen

Hello All. I am fairly new to BF2 and I now have a rather unusual problem. Hope somebody can offer some assistance.

I have Bf2 & SF. Recently I had a 500watt power supply failure whilst playing BF2/SF online. I now have a new 400watt power supply installed under warranty (the shop had no replacement 500W units available) and I can no longer play online. Problem is that the mouse cursor arrow freezes in the centre of spawn/join squad/select weapons screen after I click the 'join game' tab and I can not select a weapon, join a squad etc etc. All I can do is sit and wait to get dissed from the online game to which the mouse cursor then resumes
normal full function.

This does NOT happen in Single Player mode and everything goes great. The problem occurs with both BF2 & or SF! I have tried uninstalling the game and reinstalling with all the correct patches. Same problem! Why is this happening? I have no problem with the mouse/cursor in all other FPS games and pc functions.

Please help, it is driving me crazy!!!!

game problem, try to get more ram probly... but taht is not the case, re-install the game see if that helps

Thanks for the quick response. Prior to the power supply failure the game had run perfectly in multiplayer mode and at the time of the failure I was playing SF. I have already tried a complete uninstall/reinstall of BF2 + 1.03 & 1.12 but haven't yet reinstalled SF as the problem still happens with BF2.

I thought that if the game was corrupted somehow then a reinstall with fresh files would fix it but it hasn't. And since I had the SF disc in at the time of the power supply failure I thought that maybe the disc itself may have been corrupted somehow but then why does the problem so far again now happen with the BF2 disc in the drive?

Now I have also discovered that the moment I click on 'Join Game' and the 'Select Spawnpoint' Screen appears, not only does the mouse cursor arrow freeze but I ALSO lose all keyboard inputs too and cannot exit via the esc key. Using Alt + Tab will minimise the game to the desktop but when I click on the game again it's the same thing.

If I can get some more RAM I'll give that a go but it's been running perfectly so far with 1Gig of it.

Well I did yet another complete uninstall/reinstall and this time I checked all 3 options to delete profiles, server configs and the other one..? Anyway, this time it seems to have done the trick and I am back in business. Only thing now is I can't remember my password to retrieve my previous online Account Name...D'oh!!

err, I think that shop ripped you off with that powersupply, arent they supposed to give you an equivelent or better model, not a downgraded one?

500W should be PLENTY for almost any average gaming system out there. Unless you have 7800GTXs x2 in SLi with a Dual Core proc., a high-end $200 mobo, 4GB RAM, etc., then you should be fine.

I may have interpreted it wrong, but I think I have the same problem.

My Specs:

Shuttle AN35-N Ultra Mobo
AMD Athlon 2600+ XP
nvidia GeForce FX5700LE 128MB AGP
MaxPower 350W PSU

Sometimes, when it's done loading, I try to click on "Join Game", but the cursor doesn't move. I move my mouse downwards diagonally to the left, and I can see the "Join Game" button light up briefly, indicating that I did hover over it, but the cursor was just frozen. At that point I press escape to join game. I now have 2 cursors: 1 stuck at the place before, frozen, and another, normal one.

I used to get it at a LAN cafe I play at, on the machines with AGP 6600gts, but never on the PCI-e machines, I always get the PCI-e machines now.

Mate try this, it happened too me.
It has nothing to do with ram or any of that shit.
It is because you have no settings, go to the controls and u will probobly see that nothing at all is filled in.
Just go to reset to default.

That is all you need to do

Thanks for the responses guys. Jestar12345, yes after I uninstalled/reinstalled the first time and did not check those 3 boxes I did notice that all my control commands were indeed blank so I manually set them to what I wanted but did not reset any of them to default. Fired up the game but same old problem. After I checked all 3 boxes to delete profiles, server configs and screenies on the 2nd uninstall/reinstall I then noticed that all controls options were filled again and fired her up. Everything AOK.

Maybe as you say resetting the controls to default fixes it but then why was the problem only evident in multiplayer and not singleplayer?

I had the same problem, I have reinstalled the game and the problem disappeared.
