Hi everyone
I have a major problem with my bf2 account. The story stars as following :
for X-mas i gave my step brother bf2. Brand new!! Together we wanted to kick some serious pixel asses. But then the game would not run on his laptop!!! we installed the game 3 times and put all patches on it but it would not work!!! F******K. but then I got the great idea to copy my whole bf2 folder on my external hard disk and give him my copy of the game with my CD. Then he gave Me his CD. So now he had a working bf2 1.41. Then I deleted Bf2 from my PC and installes his version. no problemo amigo I thought. But then the shock we could not get onto any server together!!!!! not a single one even though we can join separate server at the same time and play! Every time we want to get on the same server, the second one of us that starts loading the map gets the message "invalid CD code". so why in heavens name does it do that.  we are using two different CD codes!!!!And no, he can't delete the game and install it again because that does not work at all (see beginning).
Thank you all who might have hint or an idea.

When you first installed bf2 on your pc, you typed your cd code, and the installer wrote the code in the game files. Then you gave him your folder, which had your key code in it.

When you reinstalled, did you use his code or the one you got when you bought YOUR game ?

It is like that
You both guys have at this moment installed the version with the same CD KEY
So if you have two Cd keys, use one CD on one PC and second on laptop there shouldn't be a problem.
Two players with same CD key can't be logged on at once.
CHEERS.
I hope it will help.

Try uninstalling the version on your pc and reinstalling it with your cd key, not your step brothers

You both prolly have the same IP address & punkbuster doesn't like it. What's the exact error message?
I use a wireless router for my laptop & it shows as having the same IP as my desktop, that's why most people don't get more than one internet bill.

At least I think that's how it works, I know you get the same IP if you use a router though.

*Edit:* Have you tried to troubleshoot through EA's website? It's actually surprisingly helpful.

give it a try, it can't hurt.

You thanks guys, I've tried out out your suggestions but it still doesn't work :-(
We don't live in the same house, so the problem can't be from the router. The  error message is " invalid CD key" when we try to join the same server. But we can both play on different servers at the same time. Could it be, that my account is connected to my CD-key so it's impossible to
1. be online with my account which was create with my CD-key but I use my step-brothers CD-key to run bf2
and
2. that my step brother plays bf2 with my CD-key but created his account with his old CD-key

It's very confusing I know :-(

Thanks everyone for your help so far

1. Maybe your step brother is still using his CD key?

2. Maybe when you uninstalled the game it didn't uninstall the record of your cd key. So although you installed your step-brother's game, you're still using your own cd key.

Anyway, the problem lies in both of you using one cd-key. Try reinstalling from both discs to see which one works. Otherwise, see if you can get a replacement disc from the vendor.

Hi again
@Vub: my stepbrother is definitely using my old CD and my old CD code. I installs my old version of bf2 and installed his and I'm using his CD code and his CD. I to think that when I installs my version it did not uninstall my CD code. Or when my step brother uninstalled his version it did not delete his old CD code.

Is there any way to see what CD one is using?

Thanks

A- you copied your workin bf2 folder onto his laptop

bad idea as none of the registry entries will work, correctly causing problems in the future i.e patches install uninstall cd key problems

B- id completly uninstall the game of both computers

use seperate keys ( as you have )

C- try making an image of bf2 and try installing it like that and playin like that

there are mini images of bf2 everywhere.
