The Brits enjoy the fact that they have a strong German head of state at the helm. The Greek element adds balance to the regime. It works quite well really.

It should really be Queen Elizabeth von Sachsen-Coburg-Gotha and Prince Philippos Battenberg. Good British names.

Define a British name.  Country is so diverse now, it becomes very difficult to draw the line of what is 'British' a man/woman of German descent born and living in the UK, is as British as anyone else.  Same for those of an asian, and european (more so northen) descent.  You mean something like, Charles Richardson?

I think using family guy episodes for Debate and Serious talk is the best idea.

A German head of state at the helm? Rubbish, do some research...

I think you'll find she is German. And that Philip is of German/Danish extraction. But then again - British people are German by ancestry anyway my Anglo-saxon friend.

Hmm. Born in London, uk citizen/passport and lived in the UK for the vast majority of her life...she's British. Oh, old George VI, her dad, was born in Norfolk too and the 'Old Vic' was also Uk born. British.

Queen of England= Should be kept, she actually works, travels and she alone is a symbol of British culture and society.

How can you compare British royal family to George Bush;
1.) The Royal family have no power over politics, i.e they do not have political rights in declaring war, making laws, passing budgets, etc.
2.)George Bush is the head of state and has responsibility in which he has completely destroyed.

However, I do support the overthrow of the Windsors for one simple fact- My family tree contains a king and a queen-Edward I and Lady Jane Grey(queen for nine days) I should be entitled to the throne. Bitches bow

I believe they (or at least the Queen) started paying taxes a few years ago to quell that very accusation...
I guess that is like the American troops paying taxes. Unless they are in a combat zone they pay taxes.

Why shouldn't they?  Cops, firemen, teachers, the FAA for example pay taxes also.

They dont? If not then why keep them around? Bush will be gone in a few years, but the same people will be spending british subjects money until they are dethroned.

You are exactly right, anyone paid by the government should not be taxed.

edit: except the government.

I can't believe I  had to highlight it for you.

EDIT: You may not believe it but she alone aslo makes a lot of money for the government. Tourism is a huge industry in Britain and many in London come to see the palace, etc..

I see all this talk about how a lot of people dislike president Bush. I want to know why for centuries the Brits put up with these leeches that don't do anything but live off of them. They live extremely well and for what? At least we will be rid of a bad president at the end of his term. When was the last time the queen made any decisions regarding the world?
Last time I checked you didn't get rid of a bad president at the end of his term, you gave the bastard another one! Thankfully your constitution forbids him a third.
I don't like the Windsor woman much either, but her job is essentially a figurehead. She gets the final sign off of legislation, but Parliament has all the power. Bush on the other hand has considerable power - power which he shouldn't have. You wouldn't give a loaded gun to a toddler but you'd give control of thousands of nuclear weapons as well as the power to invade any country he can't pronounce to that fucking idiot?

Yes, a Monarchy is questionable - I among others question why Liz and her family should be treated differently from everyone else, but at least her limited power is more in check than Bush's.

But she doesnt individually greet the average tourist.  The castles, palaces and musems will still be there when shes gone or when charles takes it. I doubt anyone coming here on holiday will descide not to because the Queen who they werent likely to meet anyway isnt on the thrown anymore.  Hold a referendom on it, yeesh something, I resent the idea of her majesties *insert whatever job here*.  I dont work for her, I work for my money and that is about it, would you take a bullet for your beloved Queen?

I wouldn't but that's because I don't want to die period.  Plenty of the USA soldiers take bullets for the Stars n Stripes so what's the difference?

It's hard to equate a flag to a person.  They die for there homeland and the ideals/people back home.  If the Queen was assasinated, the british way of life is hardly going to collapse, if the American flag was torn down from the whitehouse or congress then the American way of life is certainly in for a change. People come and go, the US flag has been there since the dawn of that nation (bar the slight alterations to stars).  Queen has been here some 80 odd years?  As a practical thing, she isnt needed, despite our complaints, eventhough they do get fed and watered in total luxury, compaired to our health service, military and school systems, its chicken feed what is paid to them, but I'd sleep a little better at night if that money went into something that benifit those less fortunet than myself, not just those born into a position of privileage.  It's an expense we indulge in for no good reason.  Maybe its for those who want some sort of connection to our past empire?  Personally, its something I find no just reason for other than its always been this way.......
