Recon Comprehensive Guide
______________________________________

Recon is a difficult kit to play. It requires skill, precision and good hand-eye co-ordination for the most part.

So, let's dive right in.

European Union - Moretti SR4
Magazines: 7
Clip Size: 5
Reload Time: 5 Seconds
Total Bullets: 35

The Moretti offers both power and accuracy. The 5 shot clip is very handy, especially if there are multiple enemies around. Not much else to say about this weapon as it is the standard EU sniper rifle.
Pan Asian Coalition - Park 52
Magazines: 7
Clip Size: 5
Reload Time: 5.4 Seconds
Total Bullets: 35

The Park 52 is pretty much identical to the Moretti except it has an ever so slightly longer loading time.

P33 Pereira and Takao T20 Pistols
The pistols are a life saver, mainly because of the crosshair. They are pretty much identical, except the EU (P33) is slightly more powerful and has less bullets per clip.

BJ-2 Combat Knife
I'm always a knife lover. If someone pulls out a knife, I'll take out mine and take his tags. It's best to go for the pistol first unless you are completely sure that YOU will get the kill, because you don't want your tags taken off you.

THE UNLOCKS

Anti-Personnel Mine / Claymore
For any BF2 fogies reading this, you know what to do with these. They offer a large explosion to the enemies face and is an instant kill. When used correctly, these can inflict several kills at once because of the large blast  radius. Definetely should be unlocked, as even if you put them out in the open, you'll get a kill or.. five.

DysTek Hi-Scope x4
An extremely handy thing to have if you spot an enemy in the distance. If you shoot an enemy once and he doesn't die, he'll cover himself and you know it. The DysTek zooms in far enough for you to get the headshot everytime. At  close, this can prove very annoying because if you scroll in, you may just watch the enemy go right past you and by the time you've zoomed out, he's gone.

Gruber 5 Stabilizer
Not a very exciting unlock but can be very handy nonetheless. You can only stay stabilized for a small amount of time before it's gone, and generally, by the time you've stabalized the enemy may have moved.

RDX DemoPak / C4
Defending a flag? Defending a titan? RDX is what you need. Just like C4 in BF2, it's a life-saver. You can plant it in almost any place, and in some cases it goes invisible or half into the wall. Offers a large explosion radius, and if you see one enemy coming through those titan doors, you may just get a few more kills than one.

NetBat Fade Delay
Every class has an unlock like this and once unlocked, you've got it on you constantly. It projects onto your  minimap enemies you have spotted or enemies your squad has spotted. Extremely useful!

IT-33 Camouflage
90% invisibility, bliss? Well, not entirely. You can't pull out a gun and you're not entirely invisible - especially to those with high graphics. If you're in the middle of a fight, this is the last thing you'll want to use. And if you are spotted, you can be sure the enemy will keep on firing at you.

The Gun Unlocks

Zeller-H Advanced
Magazines: 10
Clip Size: 3
Reload Time: 5.4 Seconds
Total Bullets: 30

A one shot kill on targets with light armor. No need for the stabilizer with this weapon, especially when prone. For those new to the recon class, you may not like this weapon. It only has 3 bullets per clip so in close combat it is pretty much useless due to the 5.4 second reload time.

Lambert Combine
Magazines: 6
Clip Size: 30
Reload Time: 4.3 Seconds
Total Bullets: 180

For close-combat situations, the Lambert is immense. If you are not one for the perfect shot, the Lambert can prove  very handy. Like the Zeller, it requires 3 "mini" unlocks before you can get it.

The Conclusion

Recon in 2142 is a mixture of Spec-Ops and Sniper in Battlefield 2. Whether you're one for the perfect shot or a spraying bullet fan, Recon can prove helpful. With the snipers, it takes skill and precision. A fantastic kit for anyone, although a lot may prefer Assault due to its power and other unlocks.

nice guide but i'm going to disagree with the

"Recon is a difficult kit to play. It requires skill, precision and good hand-eye co-ordination for the most part."

After seeing apm's thrown in random spots, rdx whoring, and the easiest sniper to use...but still like the guide +1

Nice guide. But Hardest class my arse. More like easiest. The carbine is just awesome. Best gun, way better than the assult guns.

Yeah btw its Lambert Carbine not Lambert Combine. This isnt hl2

Never said it was the hardest (or did I!?), just very difficult. I love the carbine, so fun when defending the titan when you have rdx also

It's not "a comprehensive guide" (and not a guide at all).
It's just weapons/unlocks list. With errors and typos.
What's the point here? There are zillions of such pseudo-"guides" out there. Where are tactics, tips and hints?

- NetBat Fade Delay. What you wrote is a bullshit - spotted enemies are painted on minimap and HUD by default. It makes painted "red diamonds" and names stay longer on HUD.
- Zeller does not kill enemy in light armor in one shot.

For me, I think it is shift.

@RU, tips and hints for recon are BLATANTLY obvious. Stay in a good spot, don't let anyone see you and don't let a kill go by you. Everyone with a sense knows that. If a squad member engages in fire or if spotted, then it'll come up on the minimap.

It looks like you've never seen proper sniper guides.
Look for BF2 ones.

I believe that you're "ze UBAR-SNIPAH", if recon tactics are BLATANTLY obvious for you? Lol.

Sniping tactics are different for different maps. Assaulting tactics are different. Recon tactics are different inside a Titan. Guides usually describe tactics and differences. Where are they here?

"Good spot" is the one which is not obvious and gives view on target area. Snipers should move after each 1-2 kills. Changing location is also a tactic on its own. Anything on this subject here?

If enemy is spotted (by anyone) - it is on minimap. If _squad_ memeber SEES enemy - it is painted on HUD as red diamond (NetBat is a squad-level system). It's quite different from what you've written.

So please write a proper guide of rename the topic to "My review of recon kit".

P.S. And where're damage statistics for weapons? Too "comprehensive" for this "guide" probably?
P.P.S. At least equipment pictures here? No?

good guide but it was more of a run down on recon unlocks, no offence.

No offense, but as other stated this is not a guide but a collection of fairly obvious descriptions of unlocks. Under a guide, I would expect something like this:

- Contrary to BF2, snipers can now really see farther than the normal classes, when scoped in. You can snipe at enemy's who don't have a chance to fight back, especially since the "normal" weapons are far less accurate as in Bf2. Use this to your advantage.
- As well contrary to Bf2 your claymores are far less useful in 2142 (even they are whored more these days through the Christmas Noob-wave). They can be easily defused by engineers and normal players can crouch around them now. Also notice that other snipers from your side can easily pick up yours and steal them. I prefer to knife such "team players" when I see them.
- Don't forget the motto of a good team sniper: Report, Report, Report. You can see more than your teammates ! Especially when you have unlocked the helmet which expands the time something is spotted.
- The stabilizer is a nice toy, but a good sniper can account for the "breathing". Since the effect is proportional to the scope, the more you zoom in, the lesser becomes the effect compared to the size of your target. Learn to use the zoom, which is free, as opposed to the stabilizer, which takes a slot.
- Don't expect too much of the zeller. While it sounds great that one shot kills to an unarmed soldier are possible, this happens VERY, VERY rarely, since nearly all players use the heavy armor. So as before you can either go for head-shot or you will need two bullets. The scope of the zeller might be better (gives better zoom), but on the other hand you only have 3 shots before you need a new magazine, which is really a problem. However, the zeller has one advantage, you can shoot opposing mines, which can be extremely useful when attacking a titan.
(And it has a nice sound too. )

These are statements I would expect in a guide (shouldn't be a complete list, just examples). Tips. Strategies. Things which are not (so) obvious. Do's and Don't Do's. And as for the opening: Recon doesn't require special skills or precision, at least not more than the other classes, as far as this goes it is not a difficult class. Precision and a good hand-eye-coordination is far more important when going in a close combat duel, where you have to kill in less than a second, than shooting from 300 meter away. It requires however strategy, tactics, overview, knowledge and in 2142 also deception. Something which you didn't cover at all.

people bash the zeller over and over because it has 3 damn rounds per clip.

that wont be a problem if people know how to aim correctly. go for them headshots as much as you can. yesterday i got 6 infiltrator pins . infiltrator pins are awarded to you for ever 5 headshots you sucessfully make.

basically i got 30 kills and 30 headshots with a zeller.... sometimes i kill a full health player with a zeller even if they have heavy armor.

the zeller does 90 points of damage per shot. the park 52 and the morettii sniper rifles does 70 points of damage. do the math people. zeller is more bang for the buck. yes i agree with everyone, 3 round per clip for the zeller sucks!!!!!!  90 points of damage is 28% more power than the base sniper rifles.

but if i get less rounds per clip for the zeller, man the people who programmed this darn game better give the zeller a crap load of stopping power.

now if the zeller does the same amount of damage as the base rifles, then it would be a useless unlock.

and here is another point: what happens if the zeller was made to do one shot one kill for non head shots... then this game will be severely unbalanced because it will turn 2142 into a sniper wars. everyone will walk around with zellers in hand, and blast each other.
