I scrolled thru my "History Learning Book" and I crossed the "Suez Canal History". So here it is:
100-mile-long shipping canal built 1859 - 1869, designed by the French engineer Ferdinanad de Lesseps. Provides the shortest route for international sea traffic between Europe and Asia. The project was possible by means of European loans and investments. in return, Egypt's ruler promised the free passage of European ships.
When, in 1875, the Egyptian ruler sold the canal shares to avoid bankruptcy, Disraeli, the British Prime Minister, bought majority shares in it for 4 million pounds it came under British control. it provided an important link the British Empire for over 75 years.
So it is real.
