BF2S Forums Punkbuster update

sometimes i believe it is automatic, but i think i am right in saying that 99% of the time it needs to be downloaded manually.... i have always had to.

i havent really heard of many people getting kicked for out of date PB files.

Back in 1942, you HAD to have the latest PB files, of you would get kicked.

Maybe this is why there are soo many cheaters in BF2... i dont know.

However, haveing out of date PB files has been known to be the cause of lag and disconnects, and even CTDs on occasions.

tbh wireless is always iffy with gaming.

I have played Battlefield 2 wirelessly since it came out.... and with my old router (Dg834G) and the WPN311v2 adapter, i had no problems. But ever since i got the new router- DG834PN (still using the same adapter) i had no end of disconnects. The settings were the same as they were in the old router, everything was changed correctly. It just wouldn't work.

The DG834PN is a upgrade to the old router.. and if you looked at the specs for it, it appeared it could only get better, but it wasnt the case!

Wireless was not designed for gaming. If it works you are lucky, as i was for 1 year, But for the majority of people disconnects, lag, packet loss, spikes etc are just caused by having wireless.

When i had wireless and had it running as it was, i would not listen to anyone, i thought... i have had it working! it must be a setting somewhere.... but the sad fact is it wont, wireless is for general surfing on the internet, and for people with laptops- which are also not recommended for gaming!

Wireless routers that say they are suitable for gaming are generally talking a load of crap, you need to get lucky with an adapter and a router that work... I got that, and now i dont!

I have now ran at 15m CAT6 cable through the loft, and although my internet speed is still the same, and my general surfing of the internet still works the same, my BF2 ping has stayed the same, i no longer get the disconnects, the lag spikes etc etc.

If the PB update works, great, hopefully i'll see you on the battlefield, and play a full round with you, but if not, i would seriously consider get wired.
