The greatest rivalry in baseball history and one of the greatest in sports history....unless you live outside of the Northeast United States or aren't a huge front running bastard.

Where is the option for a null vote?

Despite what ESPN would have you believe (curiously, Bristol, CT is located between New York and Boston...hmmmmmm) not everybody gives a rat's ass about the Sox and Yankees.  Some of us think they're way too over hyped.

If baseball had a salary cap like the NFL these two franchises would be terrible.  They have weak farm systems and do a poor job of player evaluation.  The only reason they're competitive is they are located in densely populated areas of the country and can rake in huge sums of money from their front running fans.  They then turn around and have huge payrolls that grossly inflate the market for free agents for the rest of Major League Baseball.  If it wasn't for both teams' five tool check writing ability they would barely be an afterthought.

I see you disagree.

What in your opinion is the greatest MLB rivalry?

Does this Yankees/Sox rivalry not rate in the top 5 sports rivalries of all time?

Of course it is. I mean, the legacy, the close proximity, the competitiveness, it all builds up to a huge rivalry. I mean, sure, nobody that I know cries evertime either the Yankees or Red Sox lose to each other, but that doesn't mean that it's nationally recognized as one of the strongest rivalry.

I think you're missing my point to some degree.  It's a nice rivalry, and that's neat for you folks.  It's not the be all, end all rivalry that Sox and Yankees fans think it is.  It gets blown out of proportion because ESPN and other media outlets hype it up to be this huge important event.

Personally, think there are probably a few soccer rivalries that are bigger, like Real Madrid/FC Barcelona.  USA/Russia in nearly any international event is pretty big.  I understand that New Zealand/Australia in rugby is serious business.  India vs Pakistan and England vs. Australia are huge in cricket.  I could probably go on.  I think any rivalry between entire countries is bigger than a rivalry between two teams in the same division and tiny geographical area of the country.

Personally, I think it would be great for baseball if both teams went 0 for 162 next year.  Since they play each other 19 times, let's say they go 9 and 152, with one rain out.

Boston's better without having all that money to spend. That might be one of the Yankee's problems is that they have too many good players, it makes it hard to work together. Sox.

I vote Yankees because the Red Sox are too close to the White Sox. See Sig for details.
