Nope and also the chart shows the temp dipping about 10c from the current temp when CO2 isn't high and it stays there for hundreds of thousands of years.  To me this would be much more of concern than the current temp?  Canada would be under a Glacier, but this is acceptable to Al Gore and you eh?

Ever think that maybe a naturally correcting cycle is in play?  When temp gets high the Ozone lay rebuilds itself and brings on an Ice Age.  Hell look at your own chart.  Been through meteorites and volcanic activity that has struck over night and put a hella lot more particles in the air humanity has yet too, but some how the cycle continued.

but then again what do I know, I'm not a Senator positioned to benifit from giving paid speaches on how the sky is falling.  We can all thank Dow Chemicals for floating this dooms day theory to sell the world replacement products it developed but had no market for.

All you have to do is understand where the money is and who has much to lose over this. If you can take that out there would be no controversy.

Scientists say oil company misinforms public on global warming

WASHINGTON (AP) — ExxonMobil Corp. gave $16 million to 43 ideological groups between 1998 and 2005 in a coordinated effort to mislead the public by discrediting the science behind global warming, the Union of Concerned Scientists asserted Wednesday.
The report by the science-based non-profit advocacy group mirrors—  similar claims by Britain's leading scientific academy. Last September, The Royal Society wrote the oil company asking it to halt support for groups that "misrepresented the science of climate change."

ExxonMobil did not immediately respond to requests for comment on the scientific advocacy group's report.

Many scientists say accumulating carbon dioxide and other heat-trapping gases from tailpipes and smokestacks are warming the atmosphere like a greenhouse, melting Arctic sea ice, alpine glaciers and disturbing the lives of animals and plants.

ExxonMobil lists on its website nearly $133 million in 2005 contributions globally, including $6.8 million for "public information and policy research" distributed to more than 140 think-tanks, universities, foundations, associations and other groups. Some of those have publicly disputed the link between greenhouse gas emissions and global warming.

But in September, the company said in response to the Royal Society that it funded groups which research "significant policy issues and promote informed discussion on issues of direct relevance to the company." It said the groups do not speak for the company.

Alden Mayer, the Union of Concerned Scientists' strategy and policy director, said in a teleconference that ExxonMobil based its tactics on those of tobacco companies, spreading uncertainty by misrepresenting peer-reviewed scientific studies or cherry-picking facts.

Dr. James McCarthy, a professor at Harvard University, said the company has sought to "create the illusion of a vigorous debate" about global warming.

Scientists don't laugh at other peoples hipothesis, they make arguments and studies to prove them wrong. Things you fail miserably at here, but then again you're no scientist, right?

The last word on global warming?  You promise?  You're the grand poombah of global warming conversations?  What happens if I start a thread later today on global warming?  Can I count on your not participating, or does that mean the whole of the BF2S community (arguably the brightest collection of minds ever assembled on the subject) will boycott as the last word has already been said?  OR will my hard drive crash if I even attempt another thread on the subject?

So many questions!  I just can't believe that after all the advancement in global warming theory and knowledge that this (video game) community has bestowed on the world that it's over.  Do you think the folks in Norway will finally recognize the BF2S community for it's work this year?

What topic should we discuss (read: beat to death) next and then close to further debate once we've solved?  Global warming was kind of an easy one for the assembled brainpower here.  Maybe we should figure out cold fusion.  That shouldn't take more than a couple months if we really put our minds to it.

I know we've still got that silly "peace in the Middle East" thing we've been going back and forth on, but now that we've knocked out Global Warming we ought to finish that up in the next week or so.

These are exciting times!!!!

Major Skittles, you may wish to bookmark that so you can read through it a small bit at a time. It's pretty technical stuff, so it's best to read a little at a time to make sure you get it all.

And excellent choice, Kerry.

It was 70 on long island the other day. We haven't hit below 32 degrees F in all of cecember-january so far.

If you seriously think that's normal, you need help. Lots of help. And I repeat again, even if it ISN'T all us doing, why continue to put as much CO2 into the air as we do???

Why take the fucking chance and risk your children's lives? I'd say it's because you only give a shit about yourselves.

Proving more to your illiterate nature, the graph doesn't even show temperature on the Y axis... it shows "Temperature Change" . Both of the times you tried to talk back, were both misreading a GRAPH... What level of education do you fill in on resumes?

There is a natural cycle in play, do you not see those peaks and valleys on the chart? Those ARE ICE AGES. When the temperature and CO2, change as drastically as they do in those 4 "peaks" the Earth went through a rapid heating before a more gradual cooling and ice age. Now, do you think that there is any way that the last peak MAY be bad? Humans weren't alive for those other ice ages, we don't know what exactly is going to happen before an Ice Age.

Major_Spittle wrote:

Excuse me? First when the temperature rises and then turns almost 180 degrees back down on the first graph, that is the Earth's natural warming affecting the ocean's natural currents over hundreds of thousands of years until one day, one moment, any one of the currents stop, sending the Earth into an Ice Age, a regular cycle for this planet we call Earth.

The ozone layer can rebuild itself, but not in any drastic ways, not one that would in a moment change the Earth from warming to cooling, that's ridiculous. There are holes in our ozone layer, from human activity, and the ozone layer can not rebuild itself fast enough to repair damage, not to mention form some overly thick layer...

You mention Dow Chemicals, you cant just make stuff up to argue back...  I gave an actual link in my first post where Exxon Mobile has paid $16million between 98 and 04 to put out fake news about global warming. Police think of where the motive is in a crime, the motive here is money. There is more money in oil than any other buisness, except maybe Arms and Pharmaceuticals, becuase of the outgrageous contracts and profit margin. There is no money for a Senator saying that there is global warming, most Senators already know this, well all of them do, some just fake it for the GOP.

Here is a little factoid/graph that would make a 1st grader understand that global warming is affecting our temperature:

The 10 warmest years on record since we started regularly taking temperature readings were all in the past 14 years.

LawJik-  No Shit that showed temp change and not the actual temperatures for each day of the last 500K years.  Your pretty damn sharp.  And here I thought the only temps the last 500k years were between 2 and -8 degrees Celsius.  Thanks for clearing that up for me you mental giant.  Here I thought that the earth had only gotten to the record high of 2c all this time you tard.

And thanks for calling me illiterate and then restating what I put in my post as your rebuttal.  The argument was if "Humans" were the cause of global warming or if this could be something that is natural and has happened before.  I think that it is a cycle, humans could have had a minor impact on the cycle, but nature is the biggest reason by far.

As for your stupid ass chart, why don't you change the Y axis to Equal +2 to -8 so you can see for yourself how insignificant that temp. change is if those are the limits to temp. change in the worlds history according to the other chart.  The zoomed in 1 degree Y axis is very misleading to small minded people like you.  Also be careful where you reference Zero between the two charts because zero on these charts is not apples to apples.

Go back to getting your information about Global warming from Sesame Street and the EPA for website for Kids.

btw, learn wtf sarcasm is.

Aside from the argument about whether or not pollution has any significant effect on the atmosphere, I agree that it [pollution] should be reduced on all fronts. I hate the smell of smog, I hate filthy stinking water and I hate the sight of uncontrolled trash swelling and festering on the side of the road.
