In a rather macabre act by the Pentagon, the Army in gearing up for the "surge" has sent out letters to the families of 75 dead soldiers asking them to report for duty.  You'd think with so relatively few casualties compared to other wars and billion dollar IT contracts for databases, they could at least keep straight who's dead and who's alive.

All joking aside, this is a slap in the face of those that lost a loved one to this stupidity and shows a little bit just how serious this administration really is about getting ready to go to war.  I'm still trying to figure out where Bush is going to get his 40k troops to "surge" with, the Army and Corps say they got another 9k that could be ready if their rear rotation is cut short, but Bush thinks we got another 31k sitting around with thumbs up their asses somewhere...maybe that includes those 20k+ wounded/maimed that need to get back to the recruiting office.  It certainly couldn't mean his own kids at least.

Zombies on the battlefield would rule because they could never get killed since they're already dead!

I think you're on to something here. Let's start a project and research this... oh wait, the Nazis already tried it at Castle Wolfenstein, and we all know how well that went over

look it happened because of a data base error, not for any other reason. The Army is doing the right things to correct this. Cut them some slack.

A mistake is not an intentional insult to those families. That is, in fact, precisely why it was a mistake.

Who said it was intentional? It was still an insult. If the government made a mistake and thought you were dead, keeping your tax refunds and welfare, would you just say "Oh well, I guess it happens. Silly feds."?

If I were on welfare, then I suppose I would need money. I still wouldn't call it an insult; what are you doing to insult them? Reminding the family that someone they love is dead? I doubt they forgot.
