I just today bought a new video card hopeing it would solve my problem. I HAD a Radeon 9550, this card was crap but still played bf2 @ low, when i would play, every 20-30  seconds  the game would pause for about 1/2 a second maby even less. This got extremely annoying so i went out and got a new card ( Geforce 7300GS AGP 8X  512mb DDR2) this card is playing bf2 @ med/high settings with no lag, but still every 20-30 seconds it will pause just like it did with the 9550 for about 1/2-1/4 of a second. I know its not a hardware problem because i have the 7300 and 1 gig of ram and my processor speed is 3.00 Ghz. Anyone know whats causing the pausing. (its not lag, im 100% sure, my ping is usually under 50)

put ur settings on all low, 100% view distance, and see if you still get the frame pauses.

After that, slowly raise settings like geometry, texture, or terrain. Putting dynamic shadows & lighting + lighting on medium will kill frame rates, so leave that on low for now.

could be your processor, tell us more, if its a 32 bit that may be your problem.

Still a poopie vid card. You should have sprung for at least a ATI X1950 Pro XGE AGP8x for around $300

They can still run 32 bit programs. Most CPU's that are 64 bit are true 64 bit though, since they can run 64 bit... you can't just make a fake one!

Sounds more like your page file being used, how much ram do you have installed?  With XP running all the background crap you need about 1.3-1.5 gigs of ram when playing BF2.

i just noticed something while playing, The screen pauses briefly because my fans speed up to two times the RPM. Every 30 seconds or so the fans turn on and atay on for about 20 seconds then do back to the normal RPM. When the fans start up the screen pauses briefly when they stop after about 20 second the screen pauses briefly again. This goes on the entire time i am playing

Try to find a software program that lets you manually control your fan speed & then make sure "automatic fan control" or whatever is turned off. SpeedFan does it if it supports your mobo http://www.almico.com/speedfan.php

When I'm gonna play BF2 or antoher game I set my fans to manual & leave them at 100%, I don't know if that could actually be your problem or not since I don't really know much about hardware but if it is then this should help.

Step away from the tech forum.......

Considering I run solid mid/highs with an XP2800+ (32 bit)........

Care to elaborate how a 64 bit processor isn't a TRUE 64 bit processor?

Dieing to hear this

To the OP::

Drop the textures to mid/low and see how it works.

Also check the tacked thread on how to optimize the game for a tip on tweaking your Punkbuster config.

Could be running out of RAM causing a speed decrease while you're storing memory to your HD as well...

Lowering the textures would help solve that.

Could the speed of my RAM have anything to do with it eventhough i have 1 gig  DDR 400 (3200). I already have speed fan it it does let me control the speed of the fans bu still did not solve the pausing problem.

Because they use 40-bit memory addressing. A true 64-bit CPU should have 64-bit addressing, not 40/48- bit memory addressing. There are other reasons too.

its not your RAM i have 1GB DDR 400(3200) and i don't get pauses every 20 seconds or so.
i just have to run the game on low.... 20fps. (geforce 5600FX)...so I'm not sure if its a hardware problem....

I wonder if this is due to the PB hard drive checks which are set by default to check every 20 seconds.  lol, maybe that is just enough to set the fans off.

Try this.  Set everything to low or off EXCEPT:  Geometry - High, View Distance - 100%, and Effects - Medium. See where that gets you.  I have found I can see everything quite well, my frames stay above 60FPS, and I get no lag with my 6800GT, which is somewhat similar to what you have.

Why don't you post in one of the other two threads you've started on this exact same problem?

If you have Webroot Spysweeper check out this link.  I had very similar symptoms as you are describing.  I uninstalled it and everything works fine now.

Acouple of my friends play with Nvidia and it was very easy to diable the v-sync on their cards. I have ATI with the Catalyst Control Center and i cant find out how to disable the V-sync. If you know how to disable even if i have to do it manualy please reply its driving me crazy.

Why don't you want it?

I dont want it because every 30 seconds or so my monotor re-sychronizes the game causing a short pause lasting probably 1/2 a second but it gets annoying so i wanna turn it off.

That's not a v-sync issue.  V-sync tells your video card to either draw the entire frame synced to the vertical refresh rate of the monitor, or to just ignore it and render as fast as it can.  V-Sync stops image tearing and helps ease eye strain, the trade off is you drop your overall frame rate.

If you are having problems with the game pausing every 30 seconds or so for a short period of time you might want to look at your task list.  Sounds like a background program is causing problems.

Yup. The lag time is probably to do with a transition between memory and pagefile. If you had more RAM it wouldn't happen. Alternatively turn down the texture quality so you've got less data filling up all your memory.

i dont care if it tears i just want to turn the v-sync off, just to see if it runs better. IF the V-sync cuts the FPS in half, wouldnt the gane run faster with the v-sync turned off???
