Hey, welcome to the forums.

About your system, the CPU is ok, so is the RAM.. Maybe go for a better GPU. The X1600 series isnt the best choice for gaming... Anyways, with those specs I guess you can run in above average settings.

run at least 1024x768... maybe go with 1280x1024, fits better for 19" Make sure you got a good FPS and try to decrease some settings like shadows, lights, textures etc. If you reach around 40-50FPS thats fair enough with this system.

For the graphicscard, hm, Im not a ATI fan at all, so I would recommend at least a 7600GT PCI-E 256MB...

I have a P4 3.0, a 6800GS, set at 1280x1024, everything maxed, and I get 45ish fps.

Anything over 30 fps, the human eye cannot detect. Do not listen to people telling you to get SLI, 4 Gigs of RAM, and super high end cards.

You just need

1) an average processor ($200US)
2) a little above average video card ($200US)
3) 2 Gigs of RAM to max out everything. (various prices depending on manufacturer...about $150US)
qft

i play with high fps and "ultra high detail" at 1280x1024 on an athlon 3200, 7900gt 256m, and 2 gigs of ram.

Specs that I know work on high:

AMD 64 3000+
Nvidia 7600gt
2gb RAM

I have the above, except only 1 gig of ram, I run all on high 4xAA, 1024x768 textures on medium though, and I get great frames.

Oh, and correction, I believe the human eye can see up to 60 fps.

Bell, if you have the extra funds then why not go for that PSU.

Just one quick question, why overclock the C2D?
I am confused as to what PSU to get, I am testing it on a 1000W galaxy (not mine) but I don't think I need quite that much, anyone who knows about PSU's and could help would be great.

To answer your question, I originally had a E6800 but when I read about the overclocking abilities of that mobo (n680i) I descided to drop to the E6600, but not wantin to loose out I descided to OC to 6800 values, I could get better than stock so I went to 3.3Ghz and it's running stable.

I have:
AMD Athlon 64 3200+
1024mb pc3200
7600gt OC 256mb

What settings do you think these would run at as ive been told 1gb of RAM wont run medium is that true?.
You have to learn the rules of the game and then you have to play better than anyone else.

Well, go with everything high, expect light, shadows on medium... AA/AF off...

About the RAM, thats bullshit! Look at my first post, there is a AMD64 3200+ system wich I run now with a 7800GS AGP 256MB, 1024MB RAM in maxed options... The loading times are, well, not the best, but the gameplay is ok.

im running
core2duo 6300EE
X1800XL PCI-E 256MB
2GB DDR2 533MHZ ram
SATA 16MB Cache HD

still dont run all settings on highest.. i put geometry and viewing distance on max... everything else is on medium/low..  i know i can run all high but i rather not even risk the slightest slowdown when im tryin to guide a missle from 400ft away

Hey, does anyone know any place other than Best Buy where you can get video cards?  The one in Lincoln doesn't have the ones needed to play BF2, they have real shitty ones

u need to head over to newegg.com my friend and order yourself one. you will probably get ripped off if u go retail. the corporations know that only noobs that dont know market values leave their houses to enter stores.

Ahh i see.

I think that for even a 8800GTX in SLi, 1000W is overkill. Generally the 1KW+ PSU's i think aren't very efficient probably only pumping out 900W. I reckon a good 800W+ PSU should be sufficient as you only have one GPU ATM.

i play at low graphic with intel prescott 2,0Ghz, 2Gb ram and saphire radeon 9800 pro 128mb AGP.  24 men server or 64, arty or not, it works good as long as I have good ping, but when it goes up a bit, things are getting bad.

at least santa didnt forgot me he took a break to f*cks one of his  dwarf to make me a amd64 3200+ with ati x1950xtx CF, 2gb ram soon so i guess i will be able to play with a little more details and i wont wait 5min to join a freaking server.

advice on what settings to run plz?

I just kinda winged it, everything on medium except like 1 or 2.  Because it takes much longer to load maps when I change it, so I didn't want to play around with the settings that much lol.

I have a:
CPU:  6300 c2d
GPU:  ATI x1950 pro crossfire edition
2GB DDR2 800 ram
display 19" dell ultrasharp as primary monitor (bf2 runs on that one)
high speed roadrunner internet if that helps lol

if you need more my xfire profile lists it better
