No no. SF applies 1.21 automatically. That is why you have to put 1.41 (or the latest patch) on afterwards.

cos I did that at first and had a failed install, may have been coincidence ?

I don't think it really matters but its 1.12 not 1.21 which it patches.

I know that you got the L96A1 unlock ONLY by buying the expac, or by picking up someone elses kit.

You get the L96A1 as the tier-two unlock in vanilla BF2 by playing SF. You also get it as the default rifle for da good guys in Euro Forces.

Yeah i know you can get it those ways but I was confused because when i started playing that gun was not available and so many people got it when they installed the patch that came out around the time euro forces was released.

No, there's no L96A1 in SF. You get the next best thing (or the better choice, depending on whose opinion you're listening to) if you're SAS or SEAL: the M24. But for all the others you have to choose between the SVD or the M95, which are both significant steps down in most respects in my opinion. If you haven't seen it, check my new video posted to the Media forum, believe me I wouldn't be using the M95 that much if I had a choice LOL
