you have to mod the BF2 shortcut somehow i forget

go in game and press ~ to bring up console and type this in to allow it to go to windowed mode game.allowToggleFullscreen [0,1] - If set to 1 allows toggling of fullscreen/windowed mode
and then type this in the console also game.toggleFullscreen - Toggles between fullscreen and windowed mode

and when i go to go back to full screen it exits the game
