Alright, I'll get to the point. It doesnt work.

I uninstalled BF2 after the patch telling me i had too little space on the drive (needs at least 3gig for some reason) which was understandable. So, I reinstalled it to my larger harddrive. Upon starting the install on the patch, it gave me the SAME error message as before, even though i have about 15gigs left on the larger hard drive. I have no idea why this happened.. Are there more files i need to delete on my C: drive?

It asked me if i wanted to keep my profiles, and i said yes.. does that mean i have to delete those?

I can't, CANT play with teh release version.. theres about 3 active servers..

Thanks for the help,

hmm dodgy, i'm not sure how to get patch working, it works fine for everyone i know.
If you can't patch to work, install patch 1.03, theres still plenty of servers running that, and then just wait for next patch, which is just around the corner, probably a couple of weeks. At least you don't have to mess around with trying to get this patch to work,  and to be quite honest it screws performance levels in the game up anyway, i used to get a average fps of 45-50ish with all settings on high, after patch its down to about 35fps with dynamic lights and shadows turned down to medium, so maybe installing the patch isn't a good idea anyway.
hope this helps.

I think I remember reading that there was some problem with that patch that it will only install to the default directory on the C: drive, there is some work around though that will let you install it to a different drive.

Sorry I can't remember exactly where I came across the info, it might have been on this site somewhere or on the totalbf2 site.

The reason for this is that the patch wants to use you %temp% and %tmp% directories located on your C: drive. There are ways to circumvent these, and works as follows:

-1st step:

- Click the start button and click "Execute".
- Typ "regedit" (without the quotes)
- Go to the key HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion
- In the right window doubleclick "ProgramFilesDir".
- The value of "ProgramFilesDir" is probably "c:\Program Files". Change this to a drive with at least of 3 GB of free space.
- After you've patched BF2, make sure to change the value of "ProgramFilesDir" back to "c:\Program Files"

- Now for step2

- Right click my computer, choose properties
- Choose the Advanced Tab and push the Environment Variables button.
- Edit the TEMP and TMP variables to something like x:\TEMP and x:\TMP (where x is the drive with 3Gb or more space)

- step 3

- Install the pesky patch.

- step 4

- Undo all changes done in registry and environment variables.. (NB! you have to write these down before changing them)
- Rebbot the puter
- Start playing patched BF2
