Yay!
That's crazy! That throws open that country to complete unpredictability - I've read a lot about him: he was a Stalinesque megalomaniac who had created a country that was pretty much worse than North Korea. At age 66 I'm guessing he had no succession plans so that country could descend into chaos.

Became head of Communist Party in Turkmenistan in 1985
Styled himself Turkmenbashi, Father of the Turkmen
Built up a cult of personality, with cities, airports and months named after him
Introduced bizarre laws, banning young men from wearing beards and listening to car radios
Poverty remained rife in the energy-rich country
set bets? ^^CameronPoe wrote:

I try to keep my beard trimmed, but my car radio listening would definitely mean years in prison!sergeriver wrote:

Perhaps that is not all bad
No it would be a problem for Europe if he gets any further on his carreer plan: "how to become a dictator in modern day" (by Berlusconi).

Now the shit will hit the fan. There are too many countries that will want to influence the "elections". Russia, China, EU, USA, Iran and even AlQueda..... Best thing they can hope for is a swift grab of power by another dictator, hopefully a "better" one...
Turkministan's a real country? Sounds like a noodle soup.

Sober enough to know what I'm doing, drunk enough to really enjoy doing it
