Most likely. But the military is already making tons of waivers, and I hear they'll take people up to like 40 years old.Bubbalo wrote:

*shrugs* I'm 27, so it's not likely I'll be drafted. My brother is 21, so he might not be as lucky if this actually happens.
Need to get real and have compulsory military service like other countries do. But it'll take many more years of warfare before we realize that it is needed. The only thing keeping us as the "only" super power (not that the title means anything) is keeping China from getting a handful more nuclear capable ICBMs. Once they do that, we're nothing..with our +/- 200,000 army! lol Time to shift the ridiculous spending we do drastically. Stop building $20 trillion dollar jets and use that for realistic useage.
Large standing forces aren't needed as much if we'd just stop invading people. We've got some of the best technology around, which is why we don't have an infantry intensive military.IRONCHEF wrote:

All we need now are leaders smart enough to not get us stuck in futile nation-building schemes.
Not if you can provide evidence you were already going to move, like say, you had already applied for perminant residency before the draft.KillingUrDoodz wrote:

If they do impose a draft, do you think that they will draft women also, or will it only be men? I think that it should be both. If the women want to have the same rights as men, they also have to have the negitives of those rights, like a draft. In other words, they should not be allowed to have only the positive things, and none of the negitive things.
Also, @ the person who stated that the Pentagon will not allow it, or does not want one. Has that ever stopped Congress or any other part of the federal government before?

i think if a country decides to go to war each family should have to send 1 family member. That way maybe we wouldn't be so god damn gun ho about going to wars around the world to spread "freedom" and "democracy" yeah because we have oh so much here...

On a serious note...even though the military is short on recruits, I can't really imagine a draft being accepted by the public at this point. Our current government has lost to much credibility for the people to back such a drastic measure.

Ironchef, I find your position confusing, not to mention apparently hypocritical, given your stance on soldiers.
The paradox is only a conflict between reality and your feeling what reality ought to be.

(jk man, jk)
I agree somewhat. If there was a draft, I can GUARANTEE that there would be MUCH more protest over this war. When you think you might have to go to a war that makes no sense to you, you do something about it. As of now, the only people there, are people who WANT to be there, or at least knew it was a possibility. Which makes it easy to justify.Mafia47 wrote:

On a side note, does anyone else see the futility of trying to fight a war as the "good guys"? I mean, in order to win a war, you gotta do things that people don't want to talk about. Like, if Iraq attacked us first, I think people would be able to justify just about anything. But since we made the first move, and have to play the role of "Caring Liberators", we just can't level a town like one would in WWII.
