US military is bent on technology, as are most modern armed forces, but in Iraq it seems as if technology has no place. At the start of the war, tech had its place, we wiped out saddams so called army & pretty much took over the country... Now that there are no real major targets left, it seems as if its about getting boots on the ground & ground pounding pretty much.

I dont doubt our military at all, I myself plan on joining the Marines possibly within the next year or so, but I i'm having thoughts on whether we can win this war...were fighting the enemy in there own backyard. There appears to be an endless amount of insurgents.

How can you defeat an enemy you cant see? The same guy shaking your hand and kissing your ass about how much he loves america one day is the same guy shooting an RPG at you the next day. Can we seriously defeat this?

Were fighting ghosts, seems as if this past month more US solders were killed than insurgents...thats like a 1st isnt it? Insurgents weapons are only getting better & there IED's are getting bigger, i've seen videos of IED's blowing the turets of M1a2 tanks....pretty insane.

How can you break the will of an enemy, if you dont even know who the damn enemy is?

WE being the major super power that we are expected to walk into Iraq and simply take over, put a new government together & leave....We went in all cocky & badass with our tanks & planes & big ego's.
Now were getting our asses handed to us by a bunch of Dirt people armed with ak's & RPG's?
Seriously the world is laughing at us...

If we continue fighting the insurgents the way we are currently, we'll never defeat them...its impossible to defeat an enemy you cant see.

We need to leave the country & let them handle there own shit...if they cant act like decent human beings & put together a country, then they dont deserve to any better than what they currently have....let them eat dirt & sleep in shit.

Just like they did to Hiroshima and Nagasaki. That sure scared the Japanese, didn't it?

Maybe I was a little harsh with that last paragraph....but what I mean is if they cant stop fighting each other & end this civil war & attempt to build some sort of government....get there shit together & learn how to work together, then there not going to have a good future.

Rome wasnt built in a day...so to speak...So Iraq will take time to rebuild...but if the Iraqi's really love there caountry as much as there fighting for it then they'll calm the fuck down & work together.

Define what you mean by technology.  If you mean laser guided bombs I agree those don't do as much dollar for dollar as equipment such as body armor or modern medicine and treatment.  Without body armor and medical technology, some of our troops would be in extremely dire shape.  Technology on the battlefield is a force multiplier that helps our troops immensely.

Those other examples did not have their government toppled and leaders removed.

Do not interpret this as me saying there is not a mess ongoing over there. Extreme Islam is a (Sick) ideology that can not be shaped with smart bombs. Islam by definition means peace and the surrender of will for the sake of god. The religion is being hijacked by those who do not understand it.

There is a disctinct difference between winning a battle and winning a war.

Battles are settled on a battlefield. Wars are settled in the minds of the opposing people: if they admit defeat TO THEMSELVES, then they have lost.

Today, the American armed forces are peerless, and their ability to win battles is unmatched. Unfortunately, the current American administration does horribly with everything necessary to win the war in Iraq.

It only appears we are losing because we have different definitions of losing than they do. We lose when we don't get our way. They lose when they are dead.

So? The United friggin' States itself hasn't won the war against drugs and crime, either. Isn't there also a war on AIDS somewhere?

I think what speaks volumes about Iraq is not that the insurgency is beating us but that this culture has so many extremists of different factions crammed into it.

You really have to ask yourself: is it really worth our time and money to help these people?  I say, fuck 'em and leave.
