The Red hair is Nordic. I also have red hair, but that gene was introduced by the raping pillaging done by the vikings around Ireland. Dark brown to black is more pure Irish if such a thing exists in the gene melting pot of the world.

Edit because I don't read my hair.

For a very short period until 1871....

...and here's the bit missing off the end of your Wiki quote...

A combination of the introduction of a primary education system (the 'National Schools'), in which Irish was prohibited until 1871 and only English taught by order of the British government, and the Great Famine (An Gorta Mór) which hit a disportionately high number of Irish language speakers (who lived in the poorer areas heavily hit by famine deaths and emigration), hastened its rapid decline. Irish political leaders, such as Daniel O'Connell (Dónall Ó Conaill), too were critical of the language, seeing it as 'backward', with English the language of the future.
Again, entirely your responsibility!

Taiwan was the same for the past 40 years. Till 1990 you can speak your native tongue. Before if you spoke any language other then Chinese, you get canned by the teacher.

'Entirely' LOL. The fact that food was leaving the country UK-bound while the famine decimated our country had no bearing on it? How nice of the crown to let Irishmen and women die in the knowledge that every death strengthened its grip on Ireland. Not to mention my original point about the penal laws (started late 1600s I believe), which were in effect a lot longer than just a 'short period'.

I could walk down to a museum anytime and read a display opening of a 1000 year old book, Icelandic has changed so little given it's isolation in the middle of the Atlantic ocean.
