MAP VOTING
Please select your favorite 3 map concepts and list them in a reply. I plan on making a BF2 map in a couple months with a small team of artists. Or suggest a map concept yourself; fictitious or real, I'll consider anything that's interesting.
NOTICE: In order to prevent long load times I’ve only provided the thumbnails, so you will have to click on each thumbnail to get an idea of the map concept in the larger version. If you don’t want to view every player configuration I would suggest trying the 64 player versions (the 3rd thumbnail to the right) since they show the fullest extent of the map.

HERE THEY ARE:
Name: BONNEVILLE DAM
Description:
I’ve had the idea of recreating Bonneville Dam as a level for a long time since it seems like a probable target for anyone wanting to damage the West Coast’s infrastructure by causing major blackouts/brownouts as well as disrupting a major shipping lane. Although BF2 already has Kubra Dam I think that the structure and layout of Bonneville Dam is different enough to still make the level unique since it isn’t nearly as vertical, but more spread out and consisting of several spans that are separated between islands. The other huge difference is that Bonneville is actually a functioning dam holding back water and it has locks.
Anyway, I think this level would definitely make use of boats for traveling between the islands and piers. I also might try to make one of the locks functional if possible. It would also allow for some fairly intense head-on conflicts since most of the flags are located along a fairly linear path. Tanks and transport vehicles could travel up and down the spans of the dam but could be blocked by mines and C4 in at the choke points. I’m also not sure whether or not I would want to add helicopters to the level or not. I have no intention of adding jets however. Despite being fairly large I still think this level could offer some interesting small arms combat for infantry at the choke points; and the dam, lock towers, and crane could provide several sniping positions.
The map is black and white because I had to use MSN instead of Google Earth, which had extremely low-res images of the area. The picture does a fairly good job of showing the layout.
Premise:
Located on the major barge shipping lane of the Columbia River between the states of Oregon and Washington, Bonneville Dam is the closest inland hydroelectric dam with an electric generation capacity eight times greater than Hoover Dam. Providing a significant portion of electricity for several west coast states including Washington, Oregon, California, and Nevada, Bonneville Dam is positioned as an ideal target for the PLA’s objective of crippling the US’s economy and infrastructure. The PLA has managed to sneak a disguised river barge carrying troops, munitions, and vehicles, up the Columbia River to Bonneville’s main lock (one of the largest locks in the world) and has seized control of the lock gate. With the intention of acquiring full control over the dam for the purposes of holding the West Coast at ransom at threat of its destruction, the PLA has to act quickly to overcome the USMC forces that were quickly dispatched to occupy the dam shortly before the PLA secured the lock gate control area.

Name: SPOKANE
Description:
Although Spokane, Washington isn’t the most likely target if a hostile force was to invade the US, I do think it would be an extremely fun map and offer a unique combination of an urban battle with a somewhat natural setting at the center. I think it offers a level with a blend of nature and civilization. I can definitely see this level being fun for urban infantry battles, indoor conflicts, and would be a dream for SF soldiers who have grappling hooks and zip lines. I think armor and transport vehicles would still work well in this level, though it would be more difficult and time consuming to access certain flags since many of them would be located inside of a building or structure. Soldiers may also be able to cross the island along the bridges quicker than vehicles in many cases. I’m not decided yet on whether there should be helicopters in this level. Personally, I think this level would provide interesting obstacles to dodge and there would be enough structure and tree cover to provide cover from helicopters, but I still think that BF2 needs another map like Karkand without helicopters.
Premise:
With the PLA’s continued strategy of disrupting the West Coast’s infrastructure and defense capabilities they have decided to move inland to secure a holding on many of their acquisitions in the region of Eastern Washington. The PLA have managed to take control of a Stadium in the city of Spokane with the hope that the city will provide cover against US air attacks that would incur collateral damage on the city. The PLA’s intent is to use the city's downtown area as a point of attack against the nearby Fairchild AFB to the southwest. The PLA knows that the US military will quickly assemble a large ground force to remove them from the city so the PLA's best chance is to entrench themselves in the city to give them the defensive advantage. Already, a small USMC force has managed to secure a temporary base of operations at a hotel southeast of the stadium. The race is on to secure the city.

Name: NORFOLK NAVAL STATION
Description:
Norfolk Naval Base is an obvious military target, although it seems unlikely that it could be penetrated. Never the less, it may prove to be a level that offers full-blown warfare on several fronts; infantry, transport, armor, helicopters, and air. The large scale docks and warehouses may also provide some interesting conflicts that haven’t been seen yet in BF2, however the size of the level may also make the gameplay a little slow for under populated servers. Unfortunately, since I don’t live near Norfolk and I probably couldn’t gain access to it anyway, much of its characteristics will have to be made up and will rely on my imagination.
Premise:
After several months of planning and intelligence gathering the MEC have managed to pull off the seemingly impossible task of infiltrating Norfolk Naval Station by boarding and taking over an aircraft carrier on the North Dock by means of several submersibles during the dark of night. After disabling several aircrafts tracking and self destruct devices the MEC has also acquired control over the aircraft on the carrier. As morning breaks, base security’s response to the situation allowed USMC forces to quickly secure strategic locations across the base with the intent to retake the carrier and prevent the MEC from furthering their infiltration operation.

Name: VALDEZ
Description:
I thought it would be interesting to make a level in Alaska because the environment is different than any current BF2 level. Alaska’s oil resources also seemed to be a natural target for a conflict involving the US and any force engaged with the US in war. Unfortunately, the Google Earth images I found for the area are extremely low-res, so you’ll have to use your imagination when looking at the map. The image I provided seems to give a clearer depiction of what the area is like. I also thought of having the level occur on the north side of the bay, which is where the town is, but it didn’t make as much sense from the perspective of warfare strategy. I think the level would be enjoyable for vehicles, but I don’t know how much fun it would be for infantry since there are many switchbacks on the roads and several open areas that would be difficult to traverse unnoticed.
Premise:
Valdez is the end of the Trans-Alaskan pipeline and a major shipping port for the oil industry of the US. Valdez’s vast oil stores and output capabilities make it an ideal target in the PLA’s campaign to destroy and undermine the US’s economy and infrastructure. Using an oil tanker carrying supplies, soldiers, and weapons the PLA has docked at Valdez’s south harbor. A quick response by US intelligence however allowed an USMC force to be dispatched to Valdez’s just prior to the PLA’s arrival. Both sides must fight quickly to secure the area and claim control over this vital resource.

Name: KASHI
Description:
It was suggested that I should consider creating a map that put the MEC and PLA forces against each other since no such arrangement currently exists in BF2. The geopolitical situation of Western China made a town/region in the province of Xinjiang seem like an ideal location. After searching about a dozen towns/regions in Xinjiang I decided on Kashi because its geography was slightly more interesting than the other locations and its significance as a center of trade made it seem like a logical choice. Unfortunately, the Google Earth resolution of the area is very poor so I will definitely be using my imagination if I decide to create this map and will probably just use the layout as a guideline. Although, I wasn’t too crazy about this concept at first, I now think that I could make this map really interesting as an urban map set in a natural hilly and field covered region. Most of the architecture for this city is very ancient since its history goes back for many centuries so it probably won’t appear anything like a modern city, but it will definitely have its own unique feel and style.
Premise:
With rising MEC and PLA confrontations in Western China an unavoidable conflict has come to a head in the town of Kashi in the province of Xinjiang China. With it’s origins as a major trading settlement located along the ancient Silk Road, Kashi still remains a center of travel and trade, and serves as a junction point for Western China’s main highway. As a hub for several surrounding regions the MEC and PLA forces contend with each other to determine who will control the region. MEC have claimed a hilltop fortification to the north, while the PLA has secured a base of operations at the city entrance to the south.
