I stayed up later than usual or I wouldn't be posting this. As I said before, I'll note each of the questions posted and respond tomorrow. If work gets slow I'll post there, otherwise after work. Please be nice people, I want this to be a discussion not another argument. Pointed questions are acceptable and I will not be offended, but if you can find a way to word it nicely, it's much appreciated.
im just wondering from this post.... do you believe so that you dont go to hell, or because you actually have faith in god?DBBrinson1 wrote:

Do you believe that if you had never been exposed to Jesus, would that mean you automatically go to hell.
Does the goat herder in Sri Lanka who is Hindu have to suffer eternal damnation just because he has a different god?
Wouldn't the world be a better safer place if we could all just stop with the afterlife speculation and focused in on the world we know we have?
No. Many rooms in the house of god.
Nope. And how do you mean? Maybe you are addressing your question to the wrong faith..
2) Your answers to one and two contradict one another.
3) I'm glad you didn't start this thread.
Stingray likes United Offensive more than CoD2, that's all I need to know
But seriously, most neo-cons and libs on this forum get along okay. If only it was like that in RL.......

I think ye doth complain a little loudly.
Actually I think this is a case of "the loudmouth gets the attention" I am a christian, and the majority of the crhistians I know are like stingray, not like DBBrinson. DBBrinson is the exception to the rule, that opens his mouth and sets a sour tone for the rest of us.Reciprocity wrote:

That's quite a claim, given the power adults legally have over children. If the woman's body is not "hers" for the duration of her pregnancy...whose is it? The foetus? The government? The father? Her parents?DBBrinson1 wrote:

I am with you. This guy seems to retort in a "I am right you are wrong way". His responses give people the wrong idea about Christians in general.Shadovve wrote:

I am intolerant. Of people who think their special little opinion carrier more weight than any other's because their little god says so. Of people who put everyone and everthing into neat little black and white categories. Should a woman, impregnated by rape, be forced to carry the infection growing inside her to term? would she be accepting the consequences of her actions? his actions? or the consequences of your little rule book?DBBrinson1 wrote:
First. You don't know me. You are probably a 14 year old that thinks you know it all.
Yea, you ignored me... You didn't do anting to rebuke my post. You just called me a name... Wow. I see your logic. I'm not holier than thou, or a fascist. I am not trying to impose anything on you. I gave my opinion. Which you obviously lack the capacity to accept that there others that differ from yours. Typical from those that kill babies because it is inconvenient for you to step up and accept the consequences of your actions.
However, now I do see myself as a better human than you. You are intolerant. You are weak. You cannot accept the consequences of YOUR OWN ACTIONS. Too bad your mom didn't share the same beliefs as you.
since all life is so precious to you, I can assume that you have devoted your life to feeding starving children around the world? And you have a house full of adopted children. That's so christian of you. wow, what a great person and how could I argue with someone who uses reasoning like this:
you might as well believe in God. Just in case? you should be a good person or you could go to hell? Is that your motivation? fear of hell. Is that what keep you from raping children? Hell. Is that what guides your 'moral compass'? You're afraid of what happens after you're dead? You're the one who sounds like a child, who behaves because of the consequences not because it's the decent, human thing to do.DBBrinson1 wrote:

oh yeah, my Mom does share my beliefs, she made the CHOICE to have me and my twin sister. And If she chose not to? I don't care, because I wouldn't fucking be here.
heres what i was trying to get at earlier, I think that any religion that uses scare tactics to gain members (hell) is rather ridiculous..
And if you put a child on the world, knowing that you can't take properly care of it, wouldn't you just ruin 2 lives? yours and you childs. sometimes you have to chose between 2 evils.DBBrinson1 wrote:

If there is a god why are there so many wars? why doesn't he stop evil from happening? why is he acting like an arrogant cock?
*clears his voice*
No, there is a reason there are adoption agencies, for children that can't be supported or aren't wantedAnd if you put a child on the world, knowing that you can't take properly care of it, wouldn't you just ruin 2 lives? yours and you childs. sometimes you have to chose between 2 evils.
God gave humans free will to do whatever they want, we start wars using whatever excuse we have. God said he wouldn't intervene so he doesn't.If there is a god why are there so many wars? why doesn't he stop evil from happening? why is he acting like an arrogant cock?
Hey, did any of you know that the bible can also be used ... as a hat.
Bible pie is pretty good to. Mmmmm ... pie.

I believe that God makes himself known to all men and you can either except him or reject him. I go to a great church where we want people to join only if it is in their heart. Church and Christianity are not for everyone and that's cool with me.CommieChipmunk wrote:

To some of the other posts:
I am a Christian, I am tolerant of people that are not. I am in the middle of an adoption, 1 of hopefully 2. I enjoy drinking in moderation, and I play a war game on-line where I get to kill others virtually. I do not agree with tactics used by some other Christians on these forums. I believe a true Christian is tolerant and accepting of all others, and hopes that they will someday understand Gods grace (This is not meant to be preaching, just trying to give a frame of mind.) I do not believe for the sake of going to heaven, I do not believe so that I will not go to hell. I believe because I started reading the bible and felt a connection to it and prayed a few times. I had no idea what I was in for. I experienced things that were too much for coincidence to explain. Some may call this a blind faith. What is the definition of "Faith" by the way? Look it up.
Not all Christians believe that every word in the bible is to be taken literally. Any person with common sense has a very hard time believing many of the stories contained in there.
@ATG
I to do not understand how people that are never exposed to Christianity can be condemned. Is it true that they go to hell just for that? I have no idea.
OP--Stingray...Very nice way to way to talk about this topic. I wish other were more open and not so idealistic. That is for both sides.

So, someone who hasn't had a chance to accept god/jesus is going to hell, but someone who perhaps has and choses another god (better watch the first two commandments) is...what...saved????? Maybe I'm missing something here...DBBrinson1 wrote:

DBBrinson1 does not represent the views of most Christians. At least not the ones I know.

Its not an infection, its a baby. A completely innocent life that had nothing to do with what came to be his or her making, and is just asking to be able to live.Reciprocity wrote:

I am pro-choice though, I'm usually pro-choice on just about everything, I just hope people make the right choices more than taking the easy way out.

But back on topic:
ATG, I have asked those questions before - the responses were not overwhelming with cerebral brilliance (though I don't know what else to expect from jamdude). Therefore, I have low confidence in well-thought out answers to your questions.
I just find it very strange that a supposedly benevolent God would cast about 4 billion people (this is assuming that the Semitic religions believe in the same God) into eternal damnation because they don't believe. I would've thought that God would've been more forgiving than that...

I appreciate your honesty and were you are coming from. I was also born into a Christian family, but I did allot of soul searching in my early teens and read about other religions and came to my own conclusions about life and what its all about. (Worm Food BTW)
I didn't baptize my son. But that doesn't mean I will discourage him from being a Christian. In fact, when he is old enough I will let him decide for himself. My job as his parent is not to push my views on this subject on him as I believe that everyone should find their own way, but more to provide him with as much subjective information and let him come to his own conclusions. I will then support him no matter what path he chooses.
I think that is the problem with religion, particularly Christianity in general. 'Saved' people think it is their 'god' given right to convert the heathen masses. Why? If someone wants to believe that the Gully Drain at the back of their house is the path to heaven, let them, its their choice. I think Fundamentalist Christians have discouraged allot of people from turning to Christianity by creating such a stigma about it all.
