Okay, just to give you guys my view of this.  I believe that there is global warming going on.  I also believe that there are warming and cooling cycles in the history of the Earth.  I also think that the latest trend is larger because of man. 

With that said, do you think that Al Gore is hypocritical in his movie?  I have a friend who stated that Al Gore is carbon neutural because the carbon that he uses to travel is lessened by the people he informs about global warming, and their carbon footprint.  (Even though he is telling them to reduce their carbon footprint, and not reduce their footprint and his.)

In the end of Inconvient Truth, there is text that says that you can reduce your carbon footprint to 0, or lower.  It seems that Al Gore is not trying to lower his.  For example, in the movie we see him on a large airplane by himself, and at least the camera man and pilots (there is no information on who else is on the plane), in an SUV, and in a limo. 

If Al Gore wanted to get even more people to understand the idea of global warming, do you think he should change this image of himself?  He is a man who likes to lead by example (at least that is how he acts imo).  Is he being hypocritical?  Why does he not travel on a smaller plane, or drive a hybrid SUV/car.  Do you think that he hurts his message by what he drives/rides in?

Personally, I think that he is being hypocritical.  What do you think?

PS:  Please do not make this a thread about if global warming exist or not.  We have enough of those.  Just answer the question, and explain your reasoning.  Thanks.

I predict this will become a thread about global warming because we have members with almost no ability to stay on topic.

That said, of course he's being hypocritical if he's hopping about using a jet, riding in an SUV/limo.  If he really believes everything he spews out, he should ride his bike to all his appearances.

That would not be very helpful to him.  How would he had made it across the Alantic or Pacific to make his apperances in China, Russia, or the many European countries to talk about global warming.

I understand that he needs to travel, and that traveling by plane is the fastest travel that we have for long distances, but I do not think he should be flying in a 747 or what ever it is.  I think that a D12 or something near that size, should be able to carry all of his staff, and be comfortable.

Also, I hope that your prediction about this thread will be incorrect.  I know that there are a lot of people who will try to get it off topic.

Dead, I hope that either you have not studied Global Warming enough, or that you are joking.  In the movie, Inconvient Truth, Gore is saying that carbon is what is causing global warming.  In order to make a reference to how much carbon a person uses, he and the people who helped create the movie called it a carbon footprint.

Good question Dubbs.
Here's my thought......I don't think he's really carbon neutral, maybe technically but not practically.
If he has a footprint of say (and I'm making this up because I have no idea how to measure carbon footprints) 20 because of the jets, SUVs, etc...but by using them convinces 10 people with a footprint of 3 each to reduce to 0, he technically has brought it to -10, a good thing. BUT, it's almost like saying "You 10 people need to cut down your carbon footprint, but because I convinced you, and it's now lower, I don't have to now."
So to me that is somewhat hypocritical. He does need to practice what he preaches. Besides, I imagine he has quite a large house to live in. How much does it cost to heat, cool, provide electricity, etc to that house, when I'm sure one half the the size would be more than enough to house his family?

i think that he maybe able to effect some people.  I think that he was wrong to make it a political issue, and that if he did not have the jokes or sections in the movie about the 2000 election people would have taken the movie a little more serious. 

I also think that those who are really strong about Global Warming, hurt themselves by blaming the hurricanes that hit the US in 2005 on global warming, and then in 2006 there were no cat 4 or 5 hurricanes.  I know that global warming could have cause some of the hurricanes to reach cat 5 but not all of them.

In America today, anytime Al (Carbon Nuetral?) Gore says anything, most Americans yawn and change the channel....

It would help if somebody who is percieved as intelligent was brought in to discuss the issue...

Do any of you think the weather man on your local TV is a tool and cannot predict the weather for shit?  Of course.  Why?  Because it is weather, and it is VERY hard to predict.  Being in aviation, I have been reading and trying to "guess" weather for over 8 years.  Sometimes you are right, and sometimes you are wrong.  It is all just an educated guess.

And that is what global warming theories are, a guess.  There are no experts when it comes to weather.

Marine that maybe true.  Just like in weather, scientist can collect data, and compare them to past days.  That is what they are doing with global warming. 

So do you think Al is a hypocrite, not by his message, but by his actions?

Do your own part, dont have others do it for you. Just because you can run around making a lot of emissions doesn't mean that you can get away with not doing anything to clean it up by yourself.

I believe that is what he should do.  I just think that he is a hyprocrite because of what he is doing (as does most people who have responded think also.).  Like I stated, someone I know stated that Gore was not a hyprocrite, because he is making people aware of their footprint.
