Yes, I am quite sure this has been mentioned before on these forums - however, after a thorough search, I haven't found anything.

Anyway, the point of this post is not to point out I have searched the forums. I am experiencing a problem with Battlefield 2 (vanilla). I only play it occasionally, so I don't know how often this happens:
Every month or so, I try it again; I open BF2, connect to a server, it loads, and when I want to click "Join Game", it comes up with the message "Modified Game Files" (something along those lines, at least). I then have to reinstall or repair the game, and it goes back to normal. Every time I play. I don't modify my game files, I don't even have mods. If I try to play Special Forces, then it's no problem, but every time I connect to a Vanilla server, I have this problem.

Can anyone help me? I'd even appreciate it if one of those "noob-correctors" came along and told me to use the search button, as long as they post a link here to a thread that answers my question.

thanks,

I hate to bump this, cause I'll get flamed
Anyway, the same applies for 2142 - it just keeps telling me "modified game files"... Is it perhaps GameSpy being deleted by an anti-spyware program?

You having problems with localization files.

What are localization files?

Localization files are the container files for all text information in the game. These files can be edited to say anything you wish in place of the default text. And in some cases can be modified to show more information than you can see by default

Download This and Unzip into your Battlefield 2 directory.

C:/Program Files/EA GAMES/Battlefield 2
