What do you think the most advanced conventional weapon is? Take into account both the weapon's technology and effectiveness. Note: This debate does not include vehicles.

In my opinion, the most advanced conventional weapon is the Raytheon Mk-48 ADCAP torpedo.

Mk-48 and Mk-48 ADCAP torpedoes can be guided from a submarine by wires attached to the torpedo. They can also use their own active or passive sensors to execute programmed target searches, acquisition and attack procedures. The torpedoes are designed to detonate under the keel of a surface ship, breaking the ship's back and destroying its structural integrity. Both can circle back and try again if they miss.

I remember seeing footage of that thing when we started the Iraq invasion a few years ago. That thing is a beast. But for the debate...no vehicles, but the individual weapons on them count.

Unstoppable from the ground? Ever hear of AA. I could target that thing with a Stinger long before I would be in range of it - not to mention it wouldn't even know I was locked on until I fired. By then it would be too late.

The MOAB uses 18,700 pounds of H-6 as its explosive filler.[1] At 1.35 times the power of TNT, H-6 is one of the more powerful explosives used by the US military.

My only problem with the MOAB is its just another big conventional bomb. THere really isn't much advanced about it. Still, its kewl nonetheless.

There probably won't be any stingers. They don't just send in these aircraft without destroying the enemy's AA first. Even then...

Defensive systems include a countermeasures dispensing system that releases chaff and flares to counter radar infrared-guided anti-aircraft missiles. Also infrared heat shields mounted underneath the engines disperse and hide engine heat sources from infrared-guided anti-aircraft missiles.

AC-130s suppressed enemy air defense systems and attacked ground forces during Operation Urgent Fury in Grenada. This enabled the successful assault of Point Salines airfield via airdrop and airland of friendly forces.

maybe you should categorize what types of weapons.  the most advanced infantry weapon will never stand a chance against any smart bomb

I beg to differ.  An advanced jet can quite possibly be classed as a weapon.  Bombs hurt quite a bit.

I meant weapon in its most basic sense. In this case, the bomb would be the weapon, not the jet (unless you're talking about Kamikazes).

The JSF is classified as a weapon.
