As Europe has a much larger populace the Europeans would end up controling the government (1 person = 1 vote etc.). Now we can force Americans to ditch the guns, give women the right to an abortion, enforce free national health sevice, kill off the whole Creationism thing and generally maker the world a better place for all .
On another note I think the Atlantic ocean will keep both cultures going quite separately, for example England and India when we were occupying it had distictly seperate cultures.
