Wow. In just 3 hours and 45 minutes this thread has racked up 6 pages of responses... not bad.

No. The United States is not joining the EU. European nations will become states within the United States. They will pay taxes and build American football stadiums. I can't wait to see the Miami Dolphins play in England and Ireland.
I just read this and nearly vomited.

That is another reason why this absurd suggestion will NEVER happen.

I dont even consider myself European...or British.  Im English.  Let alone being part of the US.

Most experts agree that over the next few years, most European countries will have been annexed by the United States. The main reason most European countries have already agreed to their statehood within the United States is due to the obvious economic benefits. However, when this happens, do you think European culture will begin to lose its uniqueness as it is absorbed into the US melting pot? Although this is inevitable, I will still ask for your opinion anyway. Do you think this should happen, and why or why not?
wow 6 pages... Interesting subject this...

Ok so I voted no, but that really doesn't matter because I don't see this happening ever...
And first of all, there is no European Culture. Each country has its own. The laws and institutions if you like, that link all European countries together do not, in any way constitute a culture. But either ways, the American culture is already imposing itself in many aspects (not that this is bad or anything, natural I'd call it).

And although the things CP mentions may be true for some countries, they simply do not apply to all members.

For example: Steady economic growth? High quality of life overall? Greece for one, has experienced no such things!

Plus aside from all the things that set apart the EU members themselves, there's the huge gap with the US. I absolutely agree with CP. Generally Europeans (and mostly us easterners) are like

"il cattivo" says: "if you work for a living, why do you kill yourself working?"

In Europe I believe, what is emerging as the most valuable asset is an overall good quality of life, and that is primarily linked to social welfare.

Although this might be deceptive, the fact remains that the mentality in the US is completely different. Not only that, the whole system is structured on a totally different basis, one that I fear no European would agree with, except those who have nothing to lose.

Given the immense culture gulf between the two regions I think it would be the least workable thing on the planet. There is internal bickering within the EU even. There is also an overwhelming amount of anti-American sentiment in Europe at the moment, sadly mainly down to Bush & co. If the US cleans up their act on the international front I wouldn't be averse to some forms of co-operation but Europe will always be sovereign, independent and stand up for what they believe is right (except for the UK and for corrupt leaders like Berlusconi). Europeans don't like the current direction the US are heading. They'd probably secretly admit to prefer getting into bed with China than they would with the US. This may change depending on whether the neo-con movement peters out.

In short, ludicrous, pathetic, unworkable idea. The bridges between our regions are currently smoldering away and it's gonna take a while to mend em. But a nice attempt at a flamefest.

I also don't know how Americans would be able to cope with so many newly fellowed citizens looking down on them and their lack of culture/refinement. Because let's face it: Europeans are snooty and believe themselves to be superior to Americans. I believe we're all equal but the fact of the matter is that that sentiment exists and is quite prevalent.

Economically, all EU member nations adopting the Euro experience minimalized national debts and deficts, a highly valued currency, and controlled inflation.

Those are some pretty solid benefits if I may say so myself.

For the love of god what do they teach you lot? the USA didn't fucking save our hides in WW2.

The saving was the job of the coalition of UK, US, Canada, Australia, Russia etc etc etc.

If anything it was the Russians that should take credit for knocking the wind out of the Wehrmacht out on the Eastern front, as already discussed in that other thread started by Serge.  And personally that's my stance as well.

Do you have any idea how much you annoy Europeans and especially Brits when you claim you saved our hides? Those dead British/Australian/Russian/Canadian soldiers that took part in D-Day & WW2? You're are insulting them.  So FUCKING quit it.
Don't give me that bullshit. The fact of the matter is that you would either be speaking Russian or German if it wasn't for our selflessness. The fact of the matter is that those dead Brits/Australians/Canadians wouldn't have made a fuck of a difference to the outcome of the war for western europe without our logistical and military support and know-how. Go cry to momma if you wanna disregard the reality of the situation.
Your obviously quite stupid , you dont go or you dont listen in history lessons an you certainly dont know a single thing about world war 2 .

infact i find it hard to grasp how you can say it was you who won the war ? you did'nt even play a part in it i think any american soilder who could read what you just put would be ashamed to call you american because they know they had Brits canadians an a hell of alot of other guys helping them win the battle against the nazis! but lets not turn this into another  " we won the war " thread

all i can say to you is go learn some history.

Neither they nor we would be willing to undergo such a merger any time soon. Hell, over half of us (here) complain about Mexicans running in and out anyway.

This is ridiculous. Don't Americans understand that most people in the world HATE their country?
Not gonna happen and besides the EU is still independant nations they are barely unified at all. Its basically the same as what New Zealand and Australia have but they have some shitty parliament that is up to fuck all.

I think you mean most of the world hates our government. If most of the world hated the US as a country then explain to me why is it we have millions of illegal immigrants and much more trying to come here.

Ding, Ding, Ding. I dont have a problem with people hating on our government, hell most of the US hates our government which is why we voted for all democrats, but I dont get it when people say they hate the US as a country.

Cam, are you seriously trying to proclaim alleginace to the EU?  You can't even stand with England... Once again, your hatred of America is showing... And once again, I invite you to the US to stay with me & my family so that I can show you that Americans are a decent people.
