And you probably have no sympathy for anyone with any other sort of mental disorder, either.Adams_BJ wrote:
I have no sympathy for anyone who takes their own life, it is the most selfish act anyone could perform. Ofcourse it doesn't worry them, they're dead, but everyone they left behind will be devistated. Good riddance to him, comiserations to his loved ones.
all these idiots don´t get the point, that depression is an illness. why are mental disorders pussylike? is it pussylike to die from cancer?
you don´t choose to have depression like you don´t choose to have cancer.
when someone dies from cancer, is it then a benefit to the gene pool, because a weak individual has left it???
"no! of course not!" they say..... if someone dies, because he is suffering another illness?
depressions aren´t just a kind of mood, you choose - it is chemical and psychological imbalance that can destroy lives.
another question. what makes us human beings? humanity? ever heard of? sure it is sooo kewl to represent the forums-chuck-norris-tough-guy..... but the only thing you show us is, that you do know shit about mental disorders and empathic intelligence. and as long as you are noobs in it - better stfu
a friend of mine took his life 10 years ago. you could say, that he had all you need for a good life. he was smart, he was handsome, he was good at school. but he also was depressive. he was ill and he couldn´t stand the mess going on in his mind. sure the parents heart was broken, but not for the selfish mean of "how dare he to break our heart, this emo coward!!!111"
it broke their heart, because they didn´t see him suffering. they wished, they could have helped him, when he needed them most. that is, what parents feel.
but you dumbasses won´t get it anyways.... you aren´t able to reflect your own feelings. how should you reflect someone else....

This, along with a few others of this nature, have been the only sensible responses to this thread. Thankyou [pt] KEIOS for the comments, and although it was some time ago, sorry about your friend. Before returning here, I though I was in the "Debate and Serious Talk" section. The way that most of you have conducted yourselves here is despicable.arson wrote:
Depression is a serious illness. My condolences to his family....
Here is another article on the story.
Personally, I don't know how you can joke about teen suicide. At school, my roll call teacher used to be a year adviser. The grade she was responsible for is now gone, the students are at university or in the work force. All but one boy that is. I can't remember what grade I was in at the time, but I remember a year meeting was called because "something bad had happened". The whole school, and especially my roll call teacher, that grades year adviser, was devastated by the news that one kid had taken their life.
He was in year 12 at the time, and I believe the HSC (Higher School Certificate, the leaving school tests) was approaching. This guy was extremely stressed and probably as a result suffered depression.
It seems that society had failed him, and Shane Halligan for that matter too. What I'm getting at is that when these people are depressed, as a society we should help them. All too often, it's the comments seen here that represent a general sentiment many people have. Maybe it's due to a lack of education on depression. I don't know.
I know in Australia (NSW at least) there exists a "Kids help line". There is also a suicide hotline. Both of these services have trained councilors that can help a person cope with their problems. This is an example of society helping them.
And to those idiots saying that it's good they were removed from the gene pool:
I go to a selective school, with some of the best and brightest people I have ever known. So did they guy who took his life a few years ago - R.I.P Stan.
Mcminty.
