Very sad. Honorable death. He is considered a real man in my book.

From what I heard on the news, their mother breastfed them. I'm not sure of their ages.Marlboroman82 wrote:

I hope he had life insurance so his wife will be able to take care of the kids without having to work. I couldn't imagine losing my wife and having to send the kids to daycare because I had to work.Marlboroman82 wrote:

more than likely he was smart enough to have a plan in place for his family. good lesson for everyone why they should have a plan in place for your family in case something happens to you. I believe his why has a couple of stores she runs, and I am sure cnet will be helping her out with expenses.Stingray24 wrote:

While I don't disagree, you have to wonder what one's train of thought turns to after being stuck there for a week.URE_DED wrote:
I was thinking the same thing. It's doubly painful that he could have been found just as the rest of the family had. Very sad.Major.League.Infidel wrote:
He shouldn't have left the car. Survival 101 says that you always stay put when lost. But it's still terrible that he had to die, and my deepest condolences for his family.
It's a horrible feeling knowing he died without knowing that his family had been saved, or were going to be saved.
By this time, good Samaritans across the country will have sent in financial condolences in effort to aid her. I'm willing to bet my Xmas bonus that Cnet will help. All this in addition to what Marlboroman82 said about "incaseof" funds, will help her out.

Poor guy was just going in a goddamn circle
What a tragedy.
What a tragedy.
The real tragedy is this could have been prevented by reading clearly posted signs that say "Pass not crossable in winter." only to continue following a map printed online.
Every person in my state knows there are roads you do not go over in the winter. That is one of them. Obviously he wasn't from the state, but buy a local map. Spend the 2$ for something that's going to accurately depict the state you are crossing.
Yes it's a tragedy.. yes it's sad.. yes he died honorably.. no question.
Was it a stupid mistake that could have easily been prevented? Most certainly. And the real tragedy is his wife and kids will have to live on knowing that.

Indeed, that pretty much fucked him . Also what JE3146 said about not following the local advice. This is sad in every way you try to look at it .DeepSkysUrGe wrote:

Understand what Hypothermia does to you mental process before you start questioning his decisions. We know his heart was in the right place.

As I had already pointed out, Rygar repeated, and I will now restate, just to make it absolutely clear - Some of us do not live in the United States of America. Please remember that when we ask "Who?". Sad as it is, this incident hasn't, to my knowledge been widely reported outside of said country.bad_mongoloid wrote:

On topic, a sad story from a bad situation, that could have potentially resulted in more than one death. Most can only imagine.
who's james kim?

He died trying to save his family, thats an honorable death.
From the aerial map it looks like he walked in a big semi circle of about eight miles. He was found about 1.5 miles from the car he started at.
How many of us carry emergency blankets/flares and food/water like tuna kits and baby food in our cars?
Not many. He was no dummy. It could happen to anyone stubborn enough to not turn back after 15 miles of mountain road.

This could have been avoided.....
304th Rescue Squadron - Portland, OR...... RIP (good call Air Force... not) they still have a full Pararescue squadron there though and they can get helicopters from 1042nd in Salem any time.
129th Rescue Wing - Mountain View, Ca (Bay Area)...... No one called.. we were in the middle of an ORI.. so we had all personnel available and on station.

1 simple call to the AFRCC (Air Force Rescue Coordination Center) is all it would have taken and we would have found him, and he would still be alive today.

I kinda knew he didn't make it though when I first heard of it though. It was first announced by news 'that a mother and her 2 kids survived one week in the wilderness' and that she breastfed them to keep them alive. Then they ended the news that they were still looking for the father.

To all the assholes who started getting angry at people who didn't know who this guy was: Fuck you, you fucking hypocrites. Have no right to yell at people for not knowing who he was, fucking emos.
P.s: R.I.P, such an unfortunate way to go. Really makes you think...

To all the assholes who post in threads without so much as a simple Google search about the subject and then who get upset by the flak they receive; don't be a tard.Mekstizzle wrote:

You are to be forgiven because you are across the pond for not knowing who he is. Google is your friend.
